Yeh - I would recommend you speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau too. Don't know if it's the same in England, but I was able to get advice over the phone as I wasn't able to make it in to a centre.

The other thing that might be worth while is considering reporting your WP to trading standards. Particularly if she hasn't delivered on an advertised / agreed set of services.

I don't know how bad ME is as I've never had it, so apologies if this is no good!

Sites like www.confetti.co.uk have their own web based wedding planners on there. It gives you lists for x time before the wedding and tells you what you need to book/do/buy. You can delete irrelevant bits, then add your own tasks in too.

It also has guest list planners so you can keep track of addresses, replies to invites and if you've sent 'thank yous' for presents.

I'm finding it very useful for our wedding.
Here I go again on my own....

If you are prepared to post a few details of here maybe we can give you a few ideas for getting your budget down?
I am getting married on 16th July - 12 weeks! I found tips from other MSEs very helpful to keeping costs to a minimum. If you want a copy of my excel templates I am happy to email them to you. I have a budget, checklist, and guest planner (this is linked to budget for head and all updates automatically - maybe you can personalise it for you?).
Its worth looking at the confetti website too.

Me debt free thanks to MSE :T

A big thank you for all your replies and support here... I think I might have gone mad this weekend without you.

Wanted to let you all know I've been to the CAB this morning and things are looking OK.......... absolutely knackered and wiped out now (as I'm sure mumstheword and turning_into_scrooge can understand only too well), but I'll be back soon and fill you all in properly.

I'll also post some further details about our wedding to see how you can help us cut our costs

    Thanks again peeps

Have only just seen this thread, and I'm so glad that things are looking up after your visit to the CAB.

As Glad says, feel free to use us as your free wedding planners! And feel free to PM me too. If you're looking for ways to cut your costs this is certainly the place to come, and if you're not overly into "traditional" wedding etiquette, then my regular rants about how much I hate the words "should" and "must" in realtions to weddings might strike a note with you! :)

(Don't worry, I don't think everyone should get married underwater or during a parachute jump! ;) We had a "white wedding" in a church and had a sit down meal and disco later for the reception, but dispensed with things like dividing the guests as bride or groom in the church, speeches, a Best Man, hired cars, extra people in the evening, and added wee touches like my "famous" green shoes!)

P.S. I just wanted to add that the bit about posting here for advice or PM'ing me goes for all MSE brides and grooms to be! :)

So pleased to hear that the CAB were able to help. You must be exhausted now (I have ME and Crohns, so I do feel for you). Have a Duvet Day today, and let us know what is happening when you feel up to it

    Hugs, Daisy

Oh yes Glad, know that thread well, am a regular visitor there :D

so absolutely not overly, why should we when its soooooooooo expensive, in fact, I'd almost say I (I think I can include 'him' in this I) would probably deliberately avoid traditional wedding etiquette given the opportunity. We don't have a big budget so to avoid any chances of looking cheap (which is where I think our WP was trying to lead us! but thats another story), do something different... so I'll be rooting for different suggestions soon.

And now for the important bit.....

responded to the WP yesterday (by email which had always been our means of communication until she wrote the canx letter) explaining we'd taken legal advice, that she had no right to charge us cancellation fees and to suggest my 5/18 of fee proposal, rounded it and offered an extra 10% on top.... still significantly below what she was originally trying to claim.

I went on to point out all the errors in her invoicing (eg dating the invoices 2006 and invoicing for the same thing on more than one invoice without raising any credit notes), errors in her budgeting spreadsheet (not that I was too bothered with that as being an accountant/analyst I was far better versed to create my own than rely on hers), and give my side of the arguement on all the accusations she made against me.

Took forever and I was absolutely zonked afterwards (in need of another duvet day or week I think Lazy lol).

Eventually today she replied (by email yay), having chosen not to send the read receipt I requested, agreeing iwht my offer in full and final settlement.

Payment made, email confirming it sent with request for concluding statement of affairs and all the necessary credit notes. Hopefully I'll get that one final correspondence from her tomorrow and then I can forget (well try to) I ever heard of her.

Wedding planning recommencing our style soon as I've recovered from the ordeal

Once again guys, thanks for being here in my hours of need, those with ME (or similar) will totally understand when I say that although it was quite a small thing, boy did it have a big affect :-(
