Yawn! My comment certainly relates to the original query.
Could I remind you that this is a public forum....if you don't like people contributing then don't post here :-)0 -
How does it help the OP? Or answer there query? The answer has been given.
Commenting on a query expressing your own views on social housing tenants is not in line with board rules is it? Whether it is a public forum or not?
If you are fed up with the threads with people who are concerned asking about their council tax benefit or bedroom (tax/cut) then don't read them. The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.0 -
Actually the op didn't have a question about benefits just confused about the bedroom tax.
Taken from the national housing federation website.
Do the regulations define a bedroom?
No. The Government’s view is that it is for landlords to specify the size of the property and this ought to match what is on any tenancy agreement and reflect the level of rent charged. The bedroom tax will not take account of whether a room is a single or a double bedroom. A room either is a bedroom or is not a bedroom.
There have been rumours circulating on social media that room under 70 sq ft do not count as a bedroom - but this is not the case. The information seems to be based on a mis-reading of the Housing Act regarding overcrowding. Read our explanation for further detail.

Rubbish!
There is no minimum size on a bedroom.
However, in order for it to be advertised as a bedroom on sales particulars, it needs to be able to fit in a bed and a wardrobe/chest of drawers. Hence being able to be used as somewhere to sleep.
By that example, anything 6ft x 7ft would be adequate. Potentially slightly smaller.£2 Savers Club #156!

That is what I said.
Looking at other responses, though, it looks like it'll make no difference to the problem in hand.0 -
Ive a hot press that would fit a double bed
Would it then be a bedroom - or still the hot press?0 -

Would it then be a bedroom - or still the hot press?Apologies - it also has to have a window to be classed as a bedroom
(i also didnt know what a hot press was! - around here it would be an iron and i was pretty sure you didnt have an iron that was as big as a double bed!)£2 Savers Club #156!
