HTC Desire S - screen smashed -VF
Options
In all my years of having a mobile I have never dropped one, broken it or lost one. Today however I dropped it and the screen smashed. The phone still works.
I contacted VF and explained what happened but although it is under warranty that doesn't cover me dropping it
. The overseas girl told me to send back to VF repair and it would be mended and put back into warranty. I would have to pay the cost of £60-£150. I said I wouldn't pay it so she said to go to buybackmyphone on ebay and sell it to them.
She said my contract is up for renewal and an upgrade in May. I'm sure an upgrade is due in May but am pretty sure my contract doesn't expire until August.
After 15 years I plan to leave VF anyway mainly because of lose of signal several times too many now but obviously would like to get this phone mended to last me for the next few months. I'm wondering if anyone has had thier HTC screen replaced other than by VF and at what price please? Many thanks.

No manufacturer's warranty covers user-inflicted damage. Covered by your contents insurance maybe?
If you sell the handset, the airtime contract continues to run until you give notice and pay any applicable ETC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Try your local phone shop for a quote to repair0

Thanks. My husband said not worth making a claim on household insurance for that amount although covered.
Local phone shops are 25 mins away but I'll call them. Thanks for suggestion.
Any ideas how I would find out if I just need an LCD screen replacement or one with that and glass aswell? Now I now why I never drop it!0 -
There's a fair few on a certain internet auction site.
Search for HTC Desire S digitizer
I replaced my old HTC hero screen twice, it's not overly complex and (certainly for mine) there was video on youtube on how to do it.2 Tickets to Blackrock Masters Tennis:j0 -
My small local independent phone shop replaced the screen (digitizer only, not the LCD) on my Desire (original, not the S) for £25 and did so in less than an hour (literally ten minutes after I dropped it). At that price and speed, it wasn't worth DIYing or claiming on insurance. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

How do you know that it's the digitizer only and not the LCD screen as well?
It sounds likely g, (though not definite) as the phone still works. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Thanks kforshaw, I had seen the YouTube video.
I'm not sure what needs replacing but definitely the glass as where it splintered a few have fallen out and I suspect the LCD screen is automatically replaced. It's still working fine, even the camera but looks worse this morning. I think I'll just have to send it off and get it repaired. That'll teach me to be more careful!0 -

No, the LCD won't be automatically replaced. If you don't see any dark splodges or stains on the screen, it's likely just the digitizer. It's a quick and easy repair and I can't see a decent local independent shop taking much more than £40 for the job. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

No splodges or stains but found a couple of letters not working on text messages ie M. We don't have any independent phone shops around here just the normal Carphone Warehouse, VF, Orange etc unless Carphone W and phones4us are classed as independent ? Thanks for your help.0
