What happens if i dont attend a jsa interview due to illness?

If you have informed them you wont be attending because of illness they should send you a JSA28 form in the post with a deadline date to return it. They cannot sanction you for being ill - only if it is your third period of sickness in a rolling 12 months - your illness must be for 14 days or less to to satisfy the JSA conditionality. Your benefit will not be released until you return the JSA28. Call them again in the morning and request this form, alternatively they could re-book your interview for a couple of days time if you feel you will be well and you can complete the form at this interview.

So if i fill this form out and send it back would i be paid my jsa even though i didnt attend? Or would i lose out on a payment? Thanx for your genuine response.

A bad cold is just that - a bad cold which will affect you for about a week. Should you not attend your interview, you will be sanctioned - and such a sanction will affect you for a lot more than a week!

Fill in the forms by all means - but don't hold out much hope for a good result.

Seriously, just drag yourself there. It's not worth the hassle.

Just think of all the lovely people you can pass your cold onto..

I've been really bad before with a chest infection coughing up all sorts of rubbish and wheezing but still went as I couldn't afford to loose out

if you were working and didnt attend work due to 'a bad cold' would you get paid? Nope, prob not, so why expect your JSA if you don't sign on... I assume the 'Bad Cold' has prevented you looking for work as well?

Sounds to me like losing your JSA this time might give you a wake-up call!! Its 10 minutes, then you can go back to laying on the sofa!

(oh, and before you say i've got attitude, when i signed on 4 weeks ago I did so with the scarlet fever my son had lovingly shared with me, knowing that i needed to attend to get my JSA)!

I'm sorry but that was very irresponsible! Scarlet fever is HIGHLY contagious and is a notifiable disease.

2 months ago a child from my sons old infant school died from complications (meningitis) after contracting scarlet fever from another child who had been sent to school while ill. His mam couldn't take time off school so she dosed him up with calpol and sent him in anyway. You really shouldn't go out while you have scarlet fever and I'm surprised your GP didn't tell you this.

The common cold is not an acceptable reason to not sign on, it's only a hours effort. IME if you are normally friendly, polite and clearly keen to work they will cut you a bit of slack if you are clearly sick one day and can't answer questions because your head is fuzzy. I've even leaned by head on the table once!

If you have full blown influenza and cannot get out of bed that is a different matter, get a certificate from your doctor.

actually, what we were told was once we had been taking the antibiotics for 24 hours we were no longer contagious... and scarlet fever, like so many other childhood diseases is actually catching before they show signs of symptoms!

when my son had it we were advised that he shouldn't leave the house until his temperature had gone down which took 4 days (probably about the time the antibiotics really got stuck in)
