+! thanks for the reccs!
That nikon lens will be one on the list (once I figure out what the lens means), but I gather it's a good zooming lens.
That and a prime will be my 3rd lens...which focal prime though?!:o
My dslr should be here in the next few days..along with bag/sd card/integral usb sd....boy that terigger needs a rest, and I'm going to flog some more stuff on ebay for a new lens:rotfl:0 -
Consider the 18-105mm zoom. Plenty about second hand for about £150.0
-
Will the 18-105 make the 18-55 kit redundant & thus floggable? But won't have the optical zoom top range/power of the 55-200? Is there a 18-2000
-
Yes you could sell 18-55mm but the 18-105mm is a bit bigger. There is a Nikon 18-200mm but it quite big and expensive £550 Tamron and Sigma have cheaper offerings.
The bigger zoom ranges can effect the image quality, generally the smaller the range the better the quality hence why primes are good.

What is a good prime to buy? And in what situations are they utilised?
With zoom, think ill next go for the 55-200 for that slightly extended range.0 -
The main advantages of a prime lens are they are normally faster (f1.8 let in more light) and have better image quality.
Unless you are unhappy with the image quality you are getting or find you are continually having to use slow shutter speeds and getting camera shake or have to increase ISO enough to show noise I would not be in a hurry to buy a prime. The kit lens should serve you well until you are more experienced the 55-200mm being a useful addition for the extra reach if you feel you need it.0 -

I was wondering that too. Does look like someone's having a laugh at others' expense.0 -
PC World do a nice compatible Tamron 55 - 200 for about £100, I got one a couple of years ago and am pleased with it.
Other lenses are: - Tokina 19 - 35 wide angle (100 deg at 19mm), Canon 18 - 55 and a Sigma 70 - 300. I didn't pay more than £100 for any of them on ebay!0 -
Any difference between tamron and nikon in terms of quality reliability and build...or a case of golf and a3?
The 55-200 will be my next after I've got used to the kit
