    Powertron,

Have you actually asked the seller to confirm what address he put on the package? As someone has already said, your seller is responsible for making sure the parcel goes to the right address and he should be playing an instrumental part in helping you recover your parcel, not just giving you the tracking number. If he's put the wrong address on the parcel, then that's his fault!

Interesting thread this though...you would of thought SD would more or less guarantee you buyer would receive the item. How can you prove you put the right address on it anyway? Can Royal Mail confirm to which address it was delivered? If it was the wrong address then the seller can claim if it's a Royal Mail mistake. If it's the seller mistake, then he should be the one to refund you.

The seller has not replied over the past 7 days now. If he did put the wrong address on I doubt he will own up to it as it would cost him £100.

Last email he sent me, he claimed Royal Mail told him the item was sent to my address, well I've been speaking to Royal Mail all week and none of them have confirmed it was sent to my address so it sounds like he may be lying.

Looks like I may have to begin a paypal dispute or could I do a credit card chargeback as it was bought with a CC through paypal.

Royal Mail customer service can at least tell you over the phone which Postal Depot handled the delivery. This way you can check the reference he has given you relates to a Special Delivery handled through the correct depot for your address. A dodgy seller could easily provide you with a Special Delivery ref no for another item...even something they had received themselves.

Start the Paypal chargeback first. If Paypal stupidly accept the tracking number without proof it has gone to the right address then you have your credit card to fall back on.

Be warned though that if you do issue a chargeback your paypal account will go negative as paypal will believe you owe them money.

Paypal may threaten you with a debt collection agency which they did to my friend. He ignored all their threats and hasn't heard from paypal since.

If the depot is correct on your tracking number do not dimiss the fact that your seller may have purposely sent an non expensive item to your town that did not have your address. This way he gets to keep your cash and lets you do all the chasing around. You need to get hold of his specil delivery slip as that is the only proof he has that he sent it to the right address and sadly only he has that.

If the item was incredibly cheap and a bargain it would not surprise me that the seller may be a little dodgy nd not replying to your emails after 7 days sounds suspect.
  • How long ago was this package supposedly delivered to you?
Can you have a word with your Postman? Ours is a bit of a miserable git but has a memory like an elephant and can invariably remember signed-for stuff he delivered very recently. Easier if you/neighbours don't get too may parcels though, otherwise he will have forgotten. Our Postman will never let anyone sign for a package except someone actually at the address it was sent to. If no-one is in he won't let neighbours sign but leaves a card and takes the package back to the Sorting Office. I'm not sure if this is official Royal Mail procedure or just him being 'jobsworth' So it sounds as if it was wrongly addressed.

Have you checked with your neighbours? How well do you know them? If the sender put the wrong address on it wasn't really the Postie's fault but an unscrupulous neighbour might have signed and decided to hang onto it.

Or how about if it went to the wrong address (again fault of seller) and the neighbour signed for it and intended to pass it on to you but 'forgot'/went on holiday etc etc.

OK, so I'm scraping the barrel here but I'm trying to help!
    Good Luck
