2007 Ford Fiesta ... only 18000 miles ... sticking injector.

This is exactly why diesel injectors get sticky: lack of use.

Driving only 3000 miles per annum? In a diesel? Why?

Modern diesels (high pressure common rail injection system) require lots of mileage at full operating temperature. The diesel fuel cleans and lubricates the injectors nicely, provided you change the fuel filter regularly and give them the opportunity to fully warm up - this is very important especially with modern low sulphur diesel fuels.

Low annual mileage in a modern diesel = frequent and expensive failures. Injectors, DPF, fuel pump, turbo, etc.

I believe Sale of Good Act states that if the goods do not last as long as they should, they can be considered fault from the beginning. Comments and suggestions please.

I suggest you accept the fact that your car is 6 years old, overwhich time you cannot guarantee the quality of ALL the fuel that was passed through it, OR that the DPF has been treated correctly.

I also suggest you dont know that it was the same fault that happened when the car was a year old and that you're possibly adding 2+2 and getting 5, to suit your own argument.

You should also correct your title - you havent had an 'engine failure at 18,000 miles' it should read - 'minor problem with 6 year old car', as in the grand scheme of things thats what it is.

Hardly a minor problem, with a coded injector replacement coming in at £700 + vat, not exactly minor.
If your a bodgit guy with stolen software, it might be minor, but most folk dont have the equipment to start coding up an injection system.
    Be happy...;)

This isn't engine failure, this is injector failure.

If you had engine failure £500 might just have covered 1/6 of the price.

In the grand scheme of running a modern day (french) diesel, it IS a minor problem given a turbo is circa £1800 fitted (been there done that), and a DPF is circa £1,000 (been there, removed that ;)) and thats before you get into pump problems, EGR valve problems, air flow meter problems, etc, etc. Also, given the size of the part relative to the engine it IS a minor problem.

My point was, its certainly not an 'engine failure'

    +1

and its 'an' injector failure, not even the set.

For info, the injectors on the french 1.6 TDCI and therefore BOSCH injectors, do NOT need coded.

So, no, no bodgit guy with stolen software needed - just a little bit of simple product knowledge. ;)
  • 18,000 on a 6 year old Diesel,no wonder you've got problems. Can't understand the mentality of buying a Diesel doing that sort of mileage, even a petrol would probably get problems. Use it or LOSE it!.
  • Hi,

I had this problem two years ago. The car would just stop regardless of speed with no warning. Once it stopped I would have to wait in random places for at least half an hour until it cooled down. Petrol stations, bridges, doctors and literally just off the motorway.

3 times it went into be repaired. I believe there are 6 injectors and difficult to know which one is faulty.

However, due to other incidents I ended up dealing with the manager at the dealership. I was informed it was costly to replace them all (as you discovered) so they replaced the one they felt it was first ( as you say, he informed me there was a common fault on one particular one)

In the end I told him my vehicle was under warranty and they bloody well change them ALL not go gambling with my life telling
.me it's fixed and sending me on the motorway home again.

Two years on i'm having engine trouble again. Car now out of warranty, only 60,000 miles. Huge bang today and result is a big hole in the bottom of my engine. Its dead. So I now own a 2009 piece of scrap!

Someone suggested today the initial damage was potentially caused by these previous issues. Need to see what the dealersjip have to say tomorrow!!

    Wish me luck
