  • A friend of mine received a questionnaire today from her local council. It asked whether she would be prepared to down size, go into the private sector housing, plus a couple of other question.
The final question was the cheekiest of all it said, if you have answered no to all the above questions can you please state how you are going to find the money to pay the shortfall.
How bloody rude, I told her to tell them to mind their own business.
She actually came up with a better answer, she put. " By working in the sex industry" I cracked up.
Can you believe the audacity of them.

i shall remember that reply for if/when i recieve a similar letter :T
  • princessdon, i shall mention it to him any way, he is ok with numbers (theres always a calculator handy if not any way) but his spelling and handwriting are his downfall. spell check doesnt always work that well as it requires the word to be fairly close to the correct spelling for it to suggest the right spelling.

Thanks for the info something I've often thought about, how did she get the business? Mailshots, drop in ads, internet advertising?

Initially for her WOM as she was prior to child a medical secretary. More recently via advertising on linked in, in IT contractors websites, with local business etc.

    An example

A builder will often get a phone call saying "I want an extension". No details. They will often ring lets say 20 builders that day, quick response is needed.

She will ring the client, get more details like number of storey's, if planning in already granted, if plumbing needs and other things.

She can then use her SS she created to do basic generic quotes (she has a list of data from local building merchants on cost of bricks per sqm). Within say 4 hours they get an emailed "initial quote" with Mr X the director to confirm with a home visit for a direct needs quotation.

That quick instant reply with a ballpark figure shows that they win more business.

The cost of the builder to her is £2 or so. So they use her as it is business deductible as an expense.

She then gains from doing their full quotes and forwarding details of other local homes they can inspect etc.

She is doing very well (she won't work more hours), but the local trade centres often refer to her daily. Eg we have a local building merchants. Huge amount of referrals from them for forwarding of mobile calls.

She charges 50p per phone call and often takes whilst in the park, bathing child etc. They just like a reply NOW and not when the builder is finished.

Panther, just a thought but you can some pretty amazing chairs nowadays. My friend that I used to work with chair had so many bells and whistles etc and was so comfy she did have a few illnesses so not sure what it was for specifically. Also someone else had one of the stool thingys that you kneel on which helped there back. Maybe something access to work may be able to help with, just a thought anyways.
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j

always an option, thank you. if a suitable job comes up where the only real obstacle is seating then asking them to provide a special chair (or having one provided by a charity or similar) would be helpful, they wouldnt really be able to refuse would they?

Do hope things get better for you all soon. Not sure how it's helped with your extra room charge but you sound resourceful so wishing you all the best and really hope your husband gets his pain levels sorted soon and you can find a way forward for you and your family. x

i hope so too, 6 years of being stuck on benefits that only just cover our basic needs is enough, we want to ejoy life and be able to give our son days out from time to time, just live what i expect most people would consider to be a normal life.
hes been living on basic painkillers and anti-inflammatories all this time, a bit more of a wait isnt too much bother. just hope they find something that works.
our resourcefullness makes some laugh, he is 14 stone and im 8. so when helping him up we have some novel ways to combat the weight difference. :rotfl:

thank you for the best wishes

and thank you to every one else too

cant afford a real one so this will have to do

Yeah I am dyselix too, good with numbers, it is very frustrating when trying to type things up and you know its not correct but no idea how it should be. Spell checker is not your friend :D
Some companies can be funny about chairs and stuff but thats were access to work can help. Obviously it would need to be a job that suited and maybe when he managing pain a bit better but sometimes these sort of things are overlooked and people struggle on. Until my friend chair was ordered I thought all the company had to do was provide decent chair but hers costs thousands, paid for 1/2 by company 1/2 by some charity thingy. Good luck !
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j
  • Well I really hope you can continue to do that and are able to as you say give your son the odd day out and live a normal life I think that is something we all need and strive for. You are a lovely breathe of fresh air. x
