Bought used car yesterday ....problem

I had a similar problem with a used car, although I was aware of it before buying. Something stuck to the wipers must have had scratched the glass in an arc right in my eye line.Bought a car from a used car dealer yesterday ,there was a cresent shaped mark where the window wiper operates .I didn't think anything of it at the time as it was raining and thought it was a smear / water mark ,turns out it's a scratch caused by the window wiper ! .
You will never remove scratches like that with ordinary cleaning.
I bought a polishing kit on Ebay containing Cerium oxide paste and polishing cloths plus a drill attachment for about £10.
Cerium oxide is a very fine abrasive paste that is suitable for glass.
It took me about 45 minutes work to get rid of the marks. You need to use a rotary drill as hand polishing would take for ever.
Google or search Ebay for Windscreen Polishing or Cerium oxide polish or Cerium oxide polishing kit etc.0 -
Clearly visible at time of purchase = no leg to stand on for claim.0

Incorrect, if the 'scratch' was there at the time of purchase, SOGA will apply. It's not going to appear in just one day is it?
OP should take it back at the earliest opportunity to show them.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

I am taking the car back this morning ,i called the dealer and explained the situation .He said he 'hopes we can sort it out'.
Thinking about it i don't know how it passed the mot in January !0 -
Depends where the scratch is. Its not necessarily an MOT failure:Thinking about it i don't know how it passed the mot in January !

You might be when you find out the full price.
Why? Not the OPs responsibility if it was there at the time of purchase. Although as KTF points out, it may not necessarily be an MOT fail. but if it was me, I would want it sorting. To be fair to the OP, it's not an easy thing to spot if the windscreen was wet when she first viewed the car.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only.
