Sky TV Problem - No satellite Signal

For the last 2 days I have been getting this message on my sky box.

"no satellite signal is being received"

I have unplugged the sky box, taken the viewing card out and waited several hours and plugged it all back and in and still no signal.

I contacted sky and they said they could send an engineer out for £65 which i think is a rip off

Any ideas what could be the problem? I can't afford to get an engineer out!

Did they go through tech checks first?

Yes, then they said looks like you will need an engineer to come and look at the cost of £65

There is warranty plan at 8.25 a month for a year, covers you for this visit and future visits in next year, or phone up, ask to speak to cancellations and they will have offer to upgrade or £15 service call.

And if they give you grief, come back and ask / PM me 'cause I know what they have to offer ;)

Why is having to pay a man to drive out to your house in a Transit van, which probably cost £20,000, the meagre sum of £65 - a "rip off" ???

I would suggest that you check your cable terminations at both ends. If you can't get to your dish you can buy a good double extension ladder for around £75 - but there again, the "rip off" merchant may have had one in his van.........................and the meter to do a signal test............and spanners to re-align your dish if it has moved........ and a new (correct !) LNB if yours has duff................and he will tell you if your Sky Box has died.
Could you do all that ?..............for less than £65 ???

I had exactly this and when I rang Sky they sent someone out with no charge! Turned out to be the 2 wires that go in the back (from the dish) on one the copper bit had bent back and just needed all pulling forward again. Hope this makes sense - if not let me know and will try to help some more x
