No, the threads don't need to be merged.

No, this isn't a big issue everyone should be aware of.

Sometimes you just buy crap diesel for any one of a number of reasons - it's not just supermarkets!

I think you may have hinted at this in another thread, but isn't it the technology in cars - super eco clean, dpf, catalytic converters which could be causing the problem?
Our Octavia is an old diesel (2006) so it will run on anything, but the later generation seem to be struggling.

They are, because the new generation common rail cars need to filter the diesel down to 2 microns as opposed to 20 microns on the old technology engines. That makes them a lot more sensitive to even minor waxing.

Also, some of the cars affected do not have a separate lift/transfer pump to push the fuel through the filter under pressure, they have to rely on atmospheric pressure being sufficient.

I think that is the case, in which case the manufacturers or government are to blame for making the regulations to hard to comply with

    What a waste of words.

Tell all those that have been affected and been charged hundreds of pounds that it isnt a big issue

Actually, there is a significant issue with some modern diesels struggling with waxing problems. Supermarket fuels are blamed but actually I ran mine for the last 12 months on shell or bp only and have had two fuel filters (2 micron) replaced in four months ( 3rd one in 12 months). Everytime when the temp has dropped sub zero.

I havw spoken to The AA through the technical helpline and the are well aware and monitoring the situation. There are two things that could be happening, either some modern cars are built too picky to work with current, standard fuels or the current fuels are not coming up to standard.

Consolidating views could really help here to gather evidence of what is an intermittent but important problem to consumers.

That said, merging threads will probably not help!

It would be good to get someone independent to look at this though, like trading standards.

For info, I have raised this with trading standards and I encourage people who have been affected to do so.

Sorry, but this is incorrect - big problem nationwide I'm afraid with a number of manufacturers!

I will assume you are unable to read

Listen smart mouth. You know exactly what I meant. But just in case you don't read too well, I will spell it out.
I have never had the slightest problem with diesel filters over many years of diesel motoring and had never read any of the threads on the subject either. Ergo, my comment "what diesel filter problem".
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
