  • Hi all
I have just had a quote to refit my bathroom £4200 for 10 days work, £420 a day......astronomical.............

Especially as I have already purchased all the sanitary good and the tiles.

Does anyone else think thats excessive?

Just because we are in Royal Berkshire doesnt mean we all live in castles

It certainly seems OTT but would you be kind enough to list up the Scope Of Work as quoted for. Only way to get a handle on it.

Also is it including or exclusive of VAT?

In the meantime get at least two more quotes for the exact same scope of work.

    Cheers

PS If thats the going rate in Berks I'm relocating next week and then I can happily retire in a couple of years time.

PPS Starting your own thread rather than hijacking someone elses would be a good idea next time. ;):D

if you EVER need some work done, give me a ring, I wont be doing the work, but I'll supply people at £400 a day for you...

I would still expect a job to be around £200 a day blended rate.

I'll have to put my prices up....
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I'm currently having a bathroom fitted into my new loft conversion. Size is 1.1 metres by approx 3 metres. The materials, including tiles, are from the Bathstore and come in at £4.5k. The plumber is charging around £2000, but that includes routing all the pipework from downstairs, fitting a radiator into the new bedroom, and fitting all the "accessories". The tiler is charging me £800.

We're just about to have two small shower rooms (2.3m x 1.8m and 2.1m x 1.7m) fitted in our 200+ year old non-listed stone built house on the Wilts/Dorset border. Sanitary ware is mainly Hansgrohe, V&B, Crosswater etc - not sure of total cost as mainly bought via friend with bathroom showroom so got a good discount ;):D

Fitting (and ripping out one old bathroom) is costing £4050 for both rooms including plumbing materials and re-routing pipework plus new soil pipe etc, but not building materials or plastering/plaster boarding, tiling or laying floors & decorating as DH is doing these aspects. New electrics (complete rewire) have already been done.

We thought this a fair price as we've previously found that cheaper trades don't like fitting higher-end German stuff or working in quirky period houses with wonky floors/walls, so we'd rather pay a bit more to have a more competent tradesman that understands old houses and better quality products :p

Sounds realistic and more helpful than the usual "did it myself for £300" type of post. When done, how about reporting back with now many man days the job took?
  • Just had our en suite fitted. Total cost £7.5k.
Included remove old suite, removal of complete floor (water damaged) . Fitting of new shower, toilet, basin, in line fan, heated towel rail, LED lights and mirror light. Karndean flooring and fully tiled. Also fitted a 3 bar shower pump to the shower and the shower in the main bathroom.
Took approx 11 working days and looks great. We are in the south east.

The end is in sight - although not quite finished I'm reliably informed the work will take three further days, bringing the total man days for the two shower rooms (not including work carried out by DH) to eighteen.

Total labour and plumbing materials (not sanitary ware or tiles) cost £4050 and that includes travelling outside of the plumbers usual area as we are based over an hour away and being semi-retired he wouldn't usually come this far.

The standard of work has been excellent - he's a very *anal* guy when it comes to level of finishing and general tidiness whilst the work is ongoing. He's encountered a few issues - to be expected in an old, beamy, wonky house - and has been cheerful and uncomplaining throughout......unlike most plumbers we've used in the past :o

Overall the two rooms including plumbing, all sanitary ware, tiles, building materials etc will have cost just under £12,000 (although all the Hansgrohe, V&B, Keuco and Bauhaus bits plus some of the tiles were bought with good discounts due to our contacts). We are very pleased with this as our friend with the upmarket showroom would have charged at least that just for one room ;):D
