I suggest OP, you have a google at some of the suppliers online for the fittings you have specified.
If you DO use a company like this they have to charge more because they would be paying their sub-contractors and wanting their cut, too.
And, in any case double check whether they would be using sub-contractors as opposed to employees - assuming you go with them...

  • +1 to what everyone else is saying. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw £12K on a 6x6 bathroom :D ... I had a quote about 10 years ago from Dolphin. I thought their quote of £7K+ was utterly bonkers, but 12K is just plain ludicrous. Don't do it!

If you wanted to give it a go, you could probably reduce the labour cost significantly by stripping out the old fittings and tiles yourself. It's not rocket-science and only very basic diy skills required.

and leave large gouges in the plaster on the walls requiring the fitter to extra work which he will rightly charge you for the remedial work. You'll reduce the overall labour cost by max half a day even thopugh you'll probably spend a couple of days doing it. Significant saving ? Nah - not in a million years. :D

In London 4k as a fitting charge is not uncommon. I've had plenty of quotes higher just for fitting. However, I pay about 3.2-3.5 for fitting.

Tiles, grout, adhesives vary greatly. I've been using nice porcelanosa tiles which come to about 1.5k per bathroom.

Then there are the internal fittings. Using quality duravit sanitary ware with furniture and hansgrohe taps/showers etc I think 3.5-4k is doable. Can be done for much less but it all depends on your price point.

So overall, £12k is way over the odds. You should get a very classy job for about a little over half that.

The quote for basin, tiles, lights etc is £7760 and the fitting charge on top will be £4400 (so just over £12K).

So. New wall hung toilet, basin, vanity unit, shower encloseur and pump, extractor fan and inset ceiling lights (4) and fully tiled.

Materials £7,760. Even with some nice stuff it's at least triple what it should be.

    Labour £4,400. At £200 a day that's 22 days.

Now, do you think that's fair?

Not in my part it isn't. :D

Can I come and do some of your fitting for you then? Me like that number immensely. :D

Oh my! I wasn't touting for business. You know thats not allowed here. It was more a tongue in cheek reaction to the suggestion that £ 3k plus is the norm for a bathroom install.

Sorry, wasn't touting for a trade either. LOL.

I'm not a professional builder or tradesman. Just a regular customer.

Had loads of quotes for bathrooms fittings (SE London) and they all varied from 3-6k.

This was for a complete refit - completely gut out the bathroom, replaster ceiling, down lights, retile all walls (full tiling to ceiling) and replacing all the sanitary ware including adjusting the pipework to accommodate new positions and installing new inline extractor fans/ new thermostatic showers etc etc.

that was on the assumption that I provided everything minus the copper pipe/battens
