Credit Card Fraud involving Blizzard Entertainment

I keep getting emails from Blizzard Entertainment, who I had never heard of, asking me to verify my account/password. I have never been on to the WOW site and am wondering how I can stop these emails - I get about 5 a day.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi XrisB,
Quickly registered to clear this up for you.
I am a former World of Warcraft player (a game published and maintained by Blizzard Enterainment) and I can tell you that these e-mails do NOT originate from them. They are so called "phising" e-mails. Blizzard Entertainment vouches to never EVER ask for personal account information (this is displayed on several ingame loading screens, in the Readme after installing the game and on several other locations). I myself have received several of these aswell and I simply forwarded them to Blizzard themselves, they probably can't do alot about it, but atleast they know how these e-mails evolve and as such can keep their users up to date. (The first ones were just simple text with bad spelling and even worse grammar, nowadays they are full blown designed and written as if it came from Blizzard themselves.)
A phising e-mail is sent by a malicous person trying to steal your account info (usually done for the purpose of using your characters as gold sellers/spammers, wich is illegal by Blizzard's EULA).
These e-mails may look legit but I can assure you, they are not legit.
They probably found your e-mail address somewhere on the web, no doubt using a bot, and added U to their "mailing list". The best way I've found to prevent these from coming through is by setting spam rules in your E-mail client. For info on how to do that, I kindly forward you to google as I don't have a clue what client you use
As to how I found this board: I thought I was the victim of CC fraud under the name of Blizzard. As it turns out, I am the victim of my own forgetful mind thankfully. Found this thread, saw your problem and decided to help out
Take care!

Thanks for the information, I thought it was Spam but will go into Google and sort things out if I can -
Sorted - brilliant - just need to go through the rest of the Spam I get.0 -

To people getting spam email from noreply@blizzard.com - If you do not have a WoW account and have not dealt with Blizzard before, forward those emails to hacks@blizzard.com, add the address to your spam filter and delete them once you've forwarded them.0 -
Here is an interesting 30 minutes of radio documentary, about the growth in games playing tournaments.
It is UK centred but includes references to the really high rollers in USA and South Korea (The home of super fast broadband).
As well as giving some more insight into the pressures on young men to keep playing with no money; parents of grunting teenagers might like to know there are some who win through to wealth and fame.

The listen again feature is usually turned off after 7 days and may not be available to our N.American cousins unless they can doctor their addresses to appear to be UK based.

If I notice that the programme has been repeated on the BBC World Service, I will post a link to that on-line version.0 -
I have been hit with a whopping $419.70 US dollars. The charge appeared as follows:-
06/14/2010 BLIZZARD ENT*ONL STO PENDING DEBIT CARD PURCHASE ($419.70)
And this BS has been going on for how many YEARS now????
I just can't beleive the Federal Government has not shut this place DOWN already!!
Somebody is being paid here in this situation why this BS is still going.
I mean if Blizzard was losing all these millions all these years - why are they still in existence? I know surely the victims are not making any money or profit off this, and if it costs the Federal Government money when someone makes a claim against these crooks, then surely Blizzard must be their #1 priority in SLAMMING THEIR DOORS SHUT.
It is time we get together as citizens and take a stand on this. Pass the word around - BLIZZARD ARE CROOKS, STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Do not support them or they just continue to exist and feed off the innocent, unsuspecting victims. Has anyone notice that their games seem to have that theme or look about them??!!0 -
You will get yur money back from "Blizzard" via you card provider if it is a VISA card. Demand a "charge back".
Other cards may vary.
Blizzard is not selling anything tangible - you have to remember that software is something you cannot see, taste, hear, or feel but it does smell:D
Here in the UK thefts like this, when they are under about 750 dollars are not even a crime as far as police in the UK are concerned, unless the victim's bank chose to report it. (Counting the mini crimes made a nonsense of the government's boast to be tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime.)
Welcome to fraud the world's largest crime.0 -
Just for your information. I had the same charge of $0.00 showing last night from RBS Netherlan GA. I had bought some shoes online from England to the US. The charge appeared right under the charge for the shoes. I called my bank to let them know that I was not aware of RBS Netherlan and if any charges were withdrown from them, that it was not authorized. They told me that they couldn't do anything until the operation was not pending anymore.
This morning, I woke up and the pending charge was gone. I believe that this was simply related to my purchase online and that it was probably while the shoe company was confirming the purchase and making sure that I was the rightful cardholder.
So no need to panic. This RBS Netherlan GA is NOT A FRAUD. And you guys should think twice before spreading the idea that something is a fraud. It 's scary to others, spread paranoia and is fallacious way of giving a particular company a bad reputation.
I would suggest that before saying anything negative or saying that things are fraud, to actually go through with things.
I can speak for all the people that had this fraud and tell you that RBS Netherlan GA is NOT a fraud. and you guys should have waited to see what would happen once the charge was not pending anymore to realize that it was simply related to one of your other charges.0 -

It would appear from the above link that the USA office of the respected Royal Bank of Scotland's "World Pay" on-line card clearing system is based in Atlanta.
It would appear that in USA the brand "Lynk" is used in connection with some merchants.

So to summarise, the appearance of the three countries suggested by
RBS Nederland Ga should not be the source of a panic, but it does suggest that someone is testing a transnational payment.0 -
I placed an order on Vista Print (vistaprint.com) today and in addition to the charge for my order I noticed a pending charge of $0.00 from RBS THE NETHERLAN GA. I alerted my bank and had them block my card number until I can go in to get a new one tomorrow. My bank said I can't claim it as a fraudulent charge until it posts for a dollar amount, but I get the feeling that they aren't going to charge my card anything and are just testing it out to see if it works. Well, it worked, but it's not going to work again!
Maybe I'm overreacting, but I've had credit card and debit card numbers stolen in the last 6 months. I'm starting to get the feeling that "secure checkout" doesn't really mean anything.0 -

This could be the explanation!
If you copy RBS Nederland Ga into the advanced search for this thread (in the first green bar above), you will find other people getting getting a nasty feeling over this, but up to now its proved to be a false alarm.0
