I posted a message to a local company who have been running LS comps. This is the reply I got yesterday

Thanks for getting in touch and let us reassure you that we would never encourage our members to undertake any activity that would put them at risk of having their Facebook page shut down.
Due to technical issues with our app, we've temporarily reverted to Like and Share however, as you'll see, we have a disclaimer which disassociates our contest from Facebook which covers us for using this method.
You are absolutely at no risk whatsoever from entering our competitions.

Not sure what they mean re disclaimer though?

Presumably they mean this that Apps have to use
Promotions on Facebook must include the following:
    a. A complete release of Facebook by each entrant or participant.
    b. Acknowledgment that the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook.
    c. Disclosure that the participant is providing information to I]disclose recipient(s) of information[/I and not to Facebook.

I have commented on the comp post, if everyone could like it or agree it would be great so they don't do it anymore!

I've been banned for a while, but suddenly discovered by accident this morning that I'm allowed back. And I saw this thread. Friday is my big weeklycomp day, and I have a long list of Facebook pages I check many of which run regular Friday "like & share" comps. I've been going through as many as I can and posting this direct on their wall...

I love your "like and share to win" competitions but did you know they are against Facebook rules? I entered lots of them and so did some of my friends... but then Facebook banned us all for a week or so because it said we weren't real people!! Please please would you consider running the competition within Facebook rules instead? (I think that means through an app). I like to like, but I don't want to get banned again!

I've won a few Facebook comps, often through like and share, but if FB is going to clamp down then I think we need to make a stand.

I own a home based bakery business and up until recently ran Facebook "like" competitions, because I wasn't aware they were against the rules, my fault for not checking really. But I did pay Facebook to promote these competitions and they were ALWAYS authorised, so I find it quite funny that Facebook are cracking down on these competitions and yet don't mind taking our money to advertise them.

I now have a competition running through my website as opposed to a Like competition on Facebook, which is better for me anyway, i'm not really that bothered how many likers I have on Facebook but people going to my website is a good thing as they can view my products better.

Also at the risk of being slated and I might've misunderstood this but you seem to be complaining because you are being banned for entering these competitions, nobody makes you, so that issue lies with you and not the business holding the competition. It's up to everybody to read the rules and if you don't and you get banned, it's nobody's fault but your own.

I do think it's a good thing that you're leaving friendly messages advising people though. :)

  • I can't even like pages at the minute, let alone like and share! Why should Facebook stop you liking stuff that you are interested in plus ? Fair enough on the like and sharing if it's against their "rules" but stop you from liking yet I can still share but can't like new pages that have apps to enter the comps. How stupid.

  • I had a reply from a page, thanking for the info and comps would be done the correct way in future.

It never occured to me that the people running l&s comps had authorisation from Facebook, let alone paid for it. Very interesting! I wonder if that explains a response I had saying yes they know sweepstakes have to be run through an app but that like & share giveaways are fine. Maybe I'll be a bit more polite in my response than I was planning :o

I wish we could find out for sure whether these comps are why so many of us were suspended... maybe we're barking up the wrong tree!

I would not like to think that someone could have been deliberately reporting (those they know to be compers)...

But these suspensions could all be tied up with the upcoming changes to how pages appear- especially commercial stuff.
