Mine stopped at about 14 weeks with the first, but much later with the second, although it wasn't as debilitating. I suspect this was because I was just more tired second time round, working and with a baby already.

Weeks 10-11 are when the baby's reproductive organs are developing, so can be the worst weeks, especially if you are carrying a girl. I had a few days in bed at this stage and this is what the Paed Consultant told me, which was also in my pregnancy book. He also told me it was a good sign in terms of remaining pregnant (not sure I believe that but it is what I was told.) Mine gradually eased off from about 12 weeks with DD1.

My life savers were squash & a biscuit before I even attempted to get up in the morning, seabands, ginger biscuits and LOTS of carbs. I think I ate french fries most days for about a month in my first trimester. I was also in bed by 8 every night early on!

Still going at 25 weeks for me. Hospital have made it worse again but before that I've found some good coping methods:
Tablets twice a day, however I'm feeling
Eat something every couple of hours
    Drink apple juice everyday
    Avoid getting hungry at all
    Give into cravings whenever possible

I had to take to my bed for both of mine:( I was sick constantly, I developed the smell of a dog! ) Which used to set me off! I could smell unwashed hair, even someone who was very clean if they walked into the room, the smell would set me off, I couldn't go and visit my friends/parents as the smell of their homes had me upchucking in their garden. I couldn't get into my own home once as husband was cooking a curry! Luckily it stopped at around the 12 weeks period. Infact the rest of the time was great except heartburn and suddenly hating spicy food something which continued a few years after each delivery, strange I love a chilli! :D

In my experience this is so true. I was pregnant a third time, the sickness started but after a couple of weeks became less severe and I then miscarriaged. Being sick as a dog means a healthy baby!:D
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more
  • I had h g with first three pregnancies. Fourth pregnancy came immediately after third, the boys are nine months and ten days apart, and I had only minimal morning sickness that time. I often wondered if the fact that I still had pregnancy hormones in my system from my third pregnancy was the reason I was not sick.

For me the sickness got to a bearable level around week 14.

I was hospitalised at week 9 for rehydration and monitoring, and after that point things got a little better as I could finally get some of the anti sickness meds down.

I remained on the anti sickness meds until around week 18 and now only take them when i have a particularly nauseous day ( I'm week 23 now).

None of the traditional advice worked at all for me, although there was a point where ice lollys (Calipos and fruit pastle lollys) stayed down for a few hours which was nice.

If you're feeling this bad, see your doctor or go to your local pregnancy drop in unit. Everyone thought I was just being melodramatic until my test results showed my body to be going into starvation mode (its all about your keytone levels)

    Good luck!

Haven't read the whole thread but have you tried those travel sickness bands you get from chemists? They were worth their weight in gold to me.

You might need to adjust where the bobble goes on your wrist until you find your 'point'. I only took them off to bathe and wash and they had to go straight back on, and that was until after delivery.

After 8 years ttc l thought l would never complain about anything but morning sickness is so badly named, i'm not sure many could cope with it 24 hours a day (even if you aren't vomiting). :(

Good luck and hope you have a healthy and non sicky pregnancy. X

    Happy moneysaving all.

How's everyone getting on? I'm having the odd day where I'm ok just nauseous, then yesterday morning it all started again :(

I feel awful about work - I keep letting them down but I'm tearful and stressed as it is. Working might just kill me off!

I bought travel bands and stopped the multi-vitamins; so far so good, I am feeling generally better but it's better than awful... Roll on September :)

Sending loads of sympathy to you.... I had HG with both my pregnancies (both boys) with DS1 it stopped at 16 weeks and I picked up but then it returned at the end of the pregnancy.

With DS2 it never stopped - if that had been my first pregnancy it would never have happened again.. I spent week after week in hospital on a drip to rehydrate, sometimes I also needed potassium as that was also low. I was also in pain all the time and docs discovered I had gallstones so I also had that added to the joy of my pregnancy!

Dont get me wrong I love both my boys and wouldnt change them for the world but I HATED being pregnant, I never "bloomed" or looked "radiant" but its amazing that the second they were born I felt "normal" again. Its worth it because being a mummy is the best job out there Im just one of the unfortunate ones who cant carry off a good pregnancy. I tried anti sickness meds, ginger, eating little and often etc etc and nothing worked, I lay and slept in a dark room for most of my pregnancy and was riddled with feelings of guilt as I couldnt look after my 4 year old child.

    Hope yours passes soon. xx

With both my pregnancies I had severe sickness from week 6 till around week 25. Then it suddenly disapeared, much to my relief. The only thing that helped when I was really in the thick of it was sleep.

I had tried everything under the sun to ease the feelings of nausea; ginger biscuits, plain crackers, flat coke, pressure pads on pulse points, accupuncture. In the end orange lollies eased it all to a bearable level.

I really hope things ease for you soon, so as you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy OP.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

So awful. I had severe morning sickness until about 30 weeks but my poor sister had HG all the way through to 8 months with both pregnancies.

We both swore by lemons and carried half a lemon around all day. Mine practically lived under my nose and I used to lick it when it got too much (gross!). I was beyond caring how it looked. I could only tolerate the unwaxed, organic ones as I could smell the chemicals on the standard lemons. I got through about 3 a day.

    Nothing else worked.....worth a try.
