£250 sounds almost fair. From what i've heard the flushing materials are only about £50 and the rest of the materials are a lot less.

All I can say is the sooner the plumber shortage situation is addressed then the sooner we'll all be better off.

How long doe,s it lake to train a plunber?

...No idea? ...and your point is? I can tell you how long it takes to become experienced enough to sort out office based computers...coz that's what I do - YEARS and i'm still far from a complete IT guru.

Becoming computer/server hadware literate is probably about the equivalent hardship of learning plumbing, but that's the easy basic training part of IT. There's also software...

...In IT, getting either Microsoft, Novell or Cisco qualified is the equivalent of taking a degree. You can even put letters after your name if you like and after all that studying and gaining certifications you're highly unlikely to be able to get £750 a day labour like a plumber can get for fitting my boiler.

I think the main point is that due to the well publicised shortage of plumbers, we've all been hammered and ripped off when it comes to paying their (plumber's) bills. Hopefully realistic and sensible pricing is just around the corner.

My point is,i have been in the plumbing industry for over 25yrs and i am still learning about new products and how to install them every week.
There lots of so called plumbers 10 week training course,s goverment approved(chaseing fools gold) ;D,charging high price,s(ripping people off)and giving genuine plumbers a bad name.
Lets be honest about this, anyone who pays £750 a day,is Bl**dy stupid, and deserves to be ripped off(not realy)But people should not pay more than£250/£300
What about Doctors,Dentist, insurance salesmen,IT enginneers, the list goes on,ripping people off all the time.
It makes me mad, when people believe all the headline stories.plumbers making 100k a year, then the boys from the city, giving up stockbrocking to become plumbers ;D.

and could you tell me what is a realistic and sensible price, that will come around the corner.
I also post on another money saving site and give Free advice about plumbing,i know its unusual Free, but please do not tarnish all tradesmen, for the short coming of a few.

All I know is I can get very good chippies, plasterers, sparkies and decorators at a fair price. Plumbers, however, are a different story.

Although your pricing and attitude seem an exception to a rule, I think it's fair to genaralise when my own experiences seem to mirror everyone elses.

By the way, do you live in the Milton Keynes area? If so, I might have a boiler for you to replace...fat chance now eh? :P

Are you sure you experiances mirror eveyones(lets have a poll)I do not live in Milton Keynes, but maybe i should, make a small fortune ;D.I live in the Warrington/Cheshire and i dont drive a Chelsea tractor either ;D.
And if you want a new boiler, replace it yourself,as its not illegal(you do not have to be Corgi registered)

Corgi was set up by the goverment, just another quango,as there are aren,t enough inspectors to police it.Why is it that you can go to any shop/trade counter and buy a gas appliance, who is going to stop you from fitting it?And check it has been installed correctly.
    The law is an !!!!!!

Your quite right however if there is an accident and you don't get it done by a 'corgi' covered person or checked after by one...................then you could have problems with your insurance in some cases :-/

That depends actually because should something serious happen and someone is injured then it is very much illegal as in that person will face criminal charges.......................it's happened in North Devon ,the house blew up and the neighbour was seriously hurt.

Again in Devon,Plymouth a 'house renovator' sorted out the gas fittings himself ,never got it checked/certified safe.............blew up half the street and went to prison :-/

No it's not technically illegal, but no-one should work on gas unless they know what they are doing and should always get it suitably checked by professionals for safety afterwards.

Yes , your right it isn't illegal

But please folks if you DIY get it checked for insurance sake and your safety.
It's about time the law was changed :-/
