Has Anyone Cured their Fear of flying?

    8) I cant believe they dont have parachutes onboard!!!!!! What good is a life jacket going to doing when you are thousands of feet in the air flying across America?

I am completely with you on this. I developed a fear of flying after being on a flight that went through an electrical storm. Now, I absolutely hate it. I cry for the first half hour at least.

I have been told numerous times by my mother (who used to be an air hostess) and husband ( who currently works for an airline) that there is no point in having parachutes as if the plane was falling you wouldn't be able to use them safely anyway. However, what got me is that there are in fact 2 parachutes at least in every plane. For the pilots.

I think for me it's the complete lack of control. I don't love being a passenger in the car with a bad driver for the same reason. And I'm only frightened of flying. As I've said before, if a boat sinks, I can swim. I cannot fly, even if I try really really hard.

The parachute issue. Let me put it this way: Can you imagine how approx 200 people who've never used a parachute would get on with using one?

Hmm. I still think the odds are higher than attempting to survive dropping from the sky by flapping your arms. :rotfl:

No, there aren't, outside of military combat aircraft with ejector seats.

You mean commercial aircraft don't have ejector seats for the pilots either?? :rotfl:

I don't help myself or my fears by watching "air crash investigators" etc

I keep watching these tv shows on plane crashes and scaring the wits out of myself!!

And... My pal who used to work in an aircraft factory, told me the only reason you sit with your head between your knees in an emergency, is that if the plane goes down, you will have protected your teeth so you can be identified by them :-O

I'm an avid watcher of those too. hence, my fatalistic outlook towards air travel.

I thought it was so that you could kiss your ãrse goodbye.

In most short haul economy seats I cant even sit down properly with my feet on the floor so there is little chance of me getting in the recommended brace position. Whoever drew the little pictures on the flight safety card had obviously never flown with Monarch!

(Other cramped and ridiculously uncomfortable airlines are available.)

Im with you on this one. I might not know how to use a parachute but if its a choice between try or die I would rather give it a go!!!!

No, the pilots do not have parachutes.

Think about it. Have you ever heard of a crash involving a passenger airliner where the pilots escaped by parachute?
