  • Thanks Betterdays! Have wanted to get one of these for ages but couldn't decide on which one. Easy decision now!

We have one and it is much better than the Drinkwell one it replaced. Quieter and easy to clean (goes in the dishwasher).

We've got this and our cats love it. They drink lots more than they used to (they each use a different level, even though they drink at separate times!). Have to agree that it's easy to clean and far quieter than previous contraptions we've had.

You need to replace the filter quite often (£5 a pop). Mine packed in because I thought I could just wash it, so now I need a new motor and filter. D'oh!
  • These are fab! My kitty has a kidney condition which flairs up if he doesn't drink and this has kept him healthy for 2 years ( :

Oooh - really undecided on this one. It looks bulky.
  • This looks like a really good price, but do remember to factor in replacement filters that you'll need every 2-3 months or so depending on water in your area. I have been through some water fountains myself, and the filters were an annoyance.

I know it's a fair bit more expensive (around £43 currently with a purchase through Topcashback from Zooplus), but the fountain I am so glad I finally settled on is the Lucky Kitty ceramic one. There are no filters to replace, and I have had mine plugged in for the last 3 years continuously (aside from 5 minutes a day while cleaning and changing the water) with no problems at all. It's silent and can also go in the dishwasher. I think it looks a whole lot prettier than the Cat Mate too.

Another benefit is that iit is made from ceramic, which is a heavier and more hygienic material as you don't get the very small scratches like you do with plastic where bacteria can build up. Being a bit heavier, it doesn't go flying when my 2 cats chase each other round and knock into it.

But as I said, it isn't as cheap. I personally think it's worth spending the extra on though! And it's a one off cost, whereas you could end up spending £10-£15 a year on filters with others.

Do you have to use it with the filter? I mean, my lot like drinking out of the pond or any old puddle? My water comes from the tap without a filter....does this work without a filter? At this price, I've ordered one anyway to try.

  • Thank you Better Days - just ordered one. Two of my cats seem to like to drink from dripping taps (and ideally I don't want the taps to drip!) so I think they'll love it and it will be good for them.

Juliebunny, I'm not sure but I suspect the reason for the filter is not (mainly) hygiene for the cats but the fact that limescale may eventually kill the motor that drives the fountain otherwise. I live in an area with very hard water so am expecting to have to buy filters every couple of months :( but I'm going to make sure the cats drink from the fountain before I invest!

I decided to go for it. We had a fountain before, really sturdy, but lord knows how, my lot managed to knock it over several times, a couple of pints of water all into my carpet.....hoping they don't manage that with this one.

I live in a very hard water area too, but if they use it I'll be happy to replace the filters. If they don't, it will go to my sister as hers currently favour her Fish tank for drinking!
