Our washing machine is 4 years old, a cheap one. They will last a while if you look after them, clear filters, prevent limescale buildup and keep gunky stuff out the pipes with regular hot washes and preferably use powder not gloopy stuff.
Tumble drier was a few years old when we got it 5 years ago, we had to change the belt once but otherwise it has been fine.
    I would never have a washer/drier...

My washer/dryer has just gone wrong (just over a week ago). Water started pouring out from the bottom (checked and tried the filter). The bearings were also going (loud clunking noises when drying). It was just under 3 years old! When ringing around for repair people, call out fee and then repairs were nearly the cost of a new washer. The dryer was only ever used for towels and took 3 hours to dry a load! We have just got a new washing machine that Ihope last few years. My old washing machine I gave to my parents when I moved house and there was already one in there. 9 years later it still works like new and is used daily!

My Bosch washing machine is 15 years old, will be 16 in May.

Never needed repair or parts replaced - just a bit of lint taken from the outlet hose once.

My poor Bosh washing machine went to the recycle centre this week :( after 9 years loyal service.
I have just bought a hotpoint, 9kg load and 16000 spin to replace it

16,000? Bloody hell, you won't need a tumble dryer!

The Bosch in this house is 7 year's old i had it 6 months, I had 2 in the last house a candy that lasted just under 4 years ( unbelievable couldn't get the part to repair as it was to old) and a hotpoint that i never liked I passed it on before moving here, my first front loader washing machine that i brought second hand in the early 90's did me 12 years. before that was a 1970's twintub I loved that machine i've never been really happy with my white's with a front loader.

12 year old Bosch washing machine - I've replaced the motor brushes a couple of years ago which cost me £15 but its still going fine. Tumble Dryer is just over 8 (know that as we bought it just before our eldest was born).
