Check this doc out which in Section 5, sets out the groups we had to protect!

I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

As you 'know', can you provide a link for that knowledge?

I agree, out of all our friends who are of pensionable age (as we are), I only know of one couple who claim any housing-related Benefits at all.

Thanks interesting! Very vague isn't it as to what other vulnerable groups are? Apart from pensioners unless I've missed something?

The document proposes questions but doesn't seem to have any answers.

I can see Judicial Reviews happening and then each council will probably have to amend it's criteria as things muddle along.

Probably having to foot the 200k bill in the long run might work out cheaper by meeting the shortfall and seeing what happens over the next year, at least your LA won't face legal costs! Are the DWP going to fund these for LA's?

  • Finally rang up my Council and asked if they had sent out bills yet? They had, but alas it has not arrived yet. So they verbally gave me amount over phone £1433.63 with £121.86 to be paid (8.5%). So I will pay it in one go as I have a little put aside for some stuff. But I do feel for those out there that will have to pay a higher percentage. The bill overall went up 2.95% and will do so for another 3 years(2017).

I think this is fair, if you get your rubbish collected, then you are using a council service and if "we are all in it together" then everyone should contribute. You will be paying far less than the ever dwindling supply of full time taxpayers who are being asked to pay more and more to support the ever increasing welfare state.

It's fair if "we are all in together" but clearly if you bring in a policy which a) exempts one whole group i.e. pensioners then b) give LA's vague instructions on other vulnerable groups it isn't really going to be a fair system where everyone ends up contributing. Hardly fair if one side of the street has to pay and the other side doesn't?

i'd really rather not pay it over 7 months if possible.
it would mean having to find an extra £82 a month with the reduction in housing benefit.
thats a large anount to find out of £400

Is that £400 cash per week that you are given? I thought that your DLA and ESA was less than that per week? About £250 cash per week (about £1,100 per calender month)??
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Why don't you move somewhere smaller?

My mother was in her 70s when she decided to sell up and move to a smaller property, so that her bills were smaller. Lower band for council tax; smaller house to heat and smaller garden (no need to pay someone to cut the lawn). "Small house, small bills" is what she told us when she said she was going to move.

    .

How do you know he is not already in a small property or one that meets his "needs" as he is disabled!? What a cheek!
