Have you checked that this is the correct amount? Are you receiving the Single Person Discount (if you live alone)? If so, you might post your SoA on the Debtfree Wannabe board, see if they can help you incorporate this into your budget? It works out at £6.70 per week.

Yes, it is correct, I had the bill today.
Oh, I can budget it in easily, I just won't heat the house. Not that I had the heat on much anyway for £286.54! As it is, I am at a friends house using his laptop, but when at home I have thermals on, t-shirt, 2 sweatshirts, a fleece and a scarf.

Sorry for being facetious. I know you are trying to help. But the reality is, is that there is really nothing in a budget of £71 per week to spare, certainly not nearly 10% of it. I hope I can call into the food bank once a fortnight to make up the loss. Otherwise, the heating really will have to stay off altogether.

Some people have reported getting bills then a few days later notices of their benefit entitlement, so even though the original bill showed a payment amount, it didn't include the benefit.

    Maybe a little hope?

I too am a little shocked budgeting was suggested to you to be honest.

There are times when with the best will in the world the money cannot be found . I think it's safe to say this applies to someone in your position!

If it has to be paid and increasing income isn't possible, budgeting is the only option. In these circumstances, what else would you suggest?
  • hi there.recieved our council tax this afternoon to be told they want £380 off us thats £38.00 a week of us.
Im on DLA middle care and my partner is my career.
we have 2 kids aged 15yr and 8yrs.
I have now been put on ESA on a work related activity group whenever that may be.

We have never paid council tax for the last few year then all of a sudden were been asked to pay 380.00 towards it.

How can we pay 30% of this of the council Tax bill.
We don't work.We even sold the car to free up funds. We own our own house and pay £140 towards the mortgage and the rest is paid by the DSS.
How come there was no mention of this. But by the looks of things we've all been taken back today why? why was there no mention of robbing more money off the poor to feed the rich....

I hope the conservative voters are happy with themsleves..all's i can say is there loaded end of!

I wonder why i couldn't get through to my local council office today..erm?? i wonder why? its not right and its not fair!

£380 a year doesn't mean you will be paying £38 per week, £38 per month if you pay over 10 months or just under £32 per month if you pay over 12 months.

How much are you living on? Is your wife claiming CA, CB, plus DLA, ESA, CTC mortgage payments and reduced council tax. It probably adds up to a tidy bit doesn't it?

I suspect you will not be able to remain in your home much longer as £140 a month is a lot to find. Can you sell?

Usually when people make suggestions to budget, they have in mind something that the poster is spending on unnecessarily, which can easily be got rid of.

People who are getting close to heat or eat on £71pw generally don't have any wiggle room.

In this posters case I fear it's as he posts, the heating will have to go or get food from a food bank so he can pay the Council Tax.
