EDF Bills

I switched to EDF last October. I have not been asked for any meter readings since I gave them my opening readings. On my account it says my next bill is due in Sept 2013.

Does anyone with any experience of EDF know if this is correct? Do they not ask for readings every 3mths or so?

When I was with EON I was asked to submit my readings online every 3mths and a bill was prepared online for me to view.

If you submit readings online their system will produce a bill and update their system with where your accounts are. However they won't ask for readings and will only allow readings once a month (you may be able to submit them more often but it won't update - one or the other!). It will be up to you to remember to put the readings in.

The September 2013 date would be the anniversary (roughly) of you joining so would be a full account review bill whereas the others are interims.

As above, put your readings in every 3 months and it will generate a bill (and quite possibly hike your DD way up as well). But a quick message via My Account will quickly result in them manually reducing your DD back to a sensible level. It's one of the many quirks of the EDF system that you will get used to.

When I joined EDF, I couldn't access their website for 6 months, I was told that this was usual. Once the 6 months were up I logged on and have had no problems since.

Have you attempted to reckon up how much energy you have used?

You don't have to wait to read the meters, do it as often as you wish to help you budget and manage your usage.

No, there are no requests for meter readings.

If you don't provide any, then they will only bill you every 12 months. If you do, they will rebill you on each occassion (unless they alreday have produced a bill withing the last month - and their month is more than 28 days apparently, so as I try to submit meter readings on the last day of the month, I never got a bill for February)
You can provide meter readings more frequently if you like, but no additional bills will be produced.
(You cannot give more than one meter reading per meter per day)

Bills are usually produced the next working day after you submit a reading (subject to the above) - you will get an email to advise you a new bill is available to view in your account.

When I joined EDF, I could access my online account almost immediately - it was where I was asked to input my start readings on the required days.

The gas account was a bit odd. It didn't appear immediately (the gas switch was a few days later) and then disappeared after I entered my start reading, but a quick phone call got it back a few days later.

I have been entering readings monthly ever since joining them last August.

I've not had my monthly DD revised yet, but then I used quite accurate anticipated annual usage figures in the first place, although this cold, long winter is meaning we are using a bit more gas than I would have hoped ... so we are a bit indebted at the moment. Hopefully we'll recover during the summer, it it ever comes.

Thanks for all the replies. I will need to set up my own reminder to submit the readings. When I was logged in I noticed they had increased my DD - no email or message to advise me of this, so I gave them a call and they immediately put it back down.

I put my readings in online and have now got a bill. the lady on the phone said they have estimated I have used less electricity - think this may be because of a change from E7. My gas bill was sky high though which I can only put down to the exceptionally cold winter.

Oddly enough today I got a card through the door saying to read the meters but since I was not in I could write them on the card they left and leave outside - seems like a pointless excercise since I have already done them online.

I don't understand why they would have changed the monthly payment if they had not had any meter readings. What could that possibly be based on?

You are entitled to 10 working days advance notice of any change in the the amount they intend to collect. Failurte to do so would be a breach of the rules of the Direct Debit Scheme and you would be fully covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee. Claims under the guarantee are made directly to your bank.

The reason you have received a card is because a meter reader is attempting to obtain a meter reading. This is required irrespective of any online submissions you provide.

I have no idea why it was changed. It was only that I logged in to put the readings in that I noticed it. It was not a message - it had just changed on the account details page. When I rang them she said the DD was even more than what I was seeing online but did put it back down to the original amount.

She said we had used less electricity - again I dont understand how she would know this as I cant see what that is based on.

I understand they do need to come round and take meter readings but seemed ironic they came a day or so after my call. Seems pointless asking me to fill the card in for them though - I thought the idea was that THEY had to read it themselves every so often.
