Went into my local Wilkinsons store to-day have always found the staff friendly and helpful, until now.
Approached the check out, said hello, no response, she then started to scan the items and I asked for a bag which I was given still no comment from her to my thanks for the bag.She then rang up the total and held out her hand for the cash give me the change, all again without a word been spoken.
At that point feeling really cheesed off I said thats pretty amazing, what is, she said, how you managed that transaction without saying a word, I replied. still no further comment from her.
I think that was rather rude, even the self service tills manage a thank you!

How devastating for you...
Maybe someone she knows had just been diagnosed with cancer and she was in shock. Or maybe she just didn't like you. Who knows...0 -
I find this annoying too. Some people have no social skills, it's amazing anyone will employ them.0

And yet one isolated incident was enough for you to post on a forum about it? Did you ever post about any of the good experiences?
Maybe she was having a bad day. We all have them and we're all allowed one every now and then. Or maybe she is just rude. Who knows. But considering its a 'first offence' by the store, let it go?''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0 -

So having experienced the level of diss-service I experienced what would have been your feeling?
Yes I am sure she must have had some problem that day , but having had many years experience in the retail trade at the sharp end and later managerial role there is never an excuse for rudeness to customers.0 -
Given Wilkinson well advertised equal employment policies, perhaps she was profoundly deaf or unable to speak?0

Personally I prefer it if there is no 'chit chat', but that's just me. I prefer the assistant to be quick and efficient. I agree a 'hello' or 'thank you' would have been nice. But she wasn't nasty or anything to you.
My honest thought would have been put it down as a one off, as you've always had good experiences. If it is something that continues, then vote with your feet and go elsewhere.
You really shouldn't let such small things get to you.''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0 -

Is it rude because she didn't want to engage in small talk with someone who appears to be quite short tempered?
