MP3 player for child?

My 8 year old has one for audio books but she isn't allowed to use headphones either. However I will say depending on the audiobook they can take up a lot of memory if it's the likes of Harry Potter for examlpe. The facility to use additonal memory cards is useful if that is within your price range.0

Second the vote for the sansa clip. Very easy to use and fairly indestructible too.0

Sansa make great mp3 players often with better sound quality than equivalent (more expensive) ipods.
One like this would be perfect and at around £27 delivered offers great value. To be honest i would avoid the tiny stic ones with no screen that are cheaper than this - they will have limited use for children who may get bored quickly as they can be tricky to use and see what is on there
Almost all (if not all) will have a factory volume limit built in as I think its an EU rule? You have to go in and remove that to get the higher volumes on the ones I've seen
The Groove Kids headphones do ones with in line volume control also which also makes things easier - maybe parents can buy them as another cost on top0 -
My 10 y/o has a hello kitty one and my 8 y/o a moshi monster one. They were about £25 so not a huge amount but they are fantastic. It also means I don't have to listen to one direction  lolLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

I would ask the parents first as people can be a bit touchy about what their kids have. I think it is a good gift though0

Hi, I have a 7 year old & 8 year old & I'm thinking of getting them each one of these for hoilday, long journey in a campervan.
I've looked at the two SanDisk ones that have been recommended on this thread and I'm wondering if someone can help answer a few questions I have (I'm not very technical!)
I assume it comes with a lead to plug it into my laptop, how easy to get the music (and audio books - they'd love that) on there? Can I put different things on each one? (They both love the same things, so thinking of getting 2 of the 4GB ones & loading different stuff on each, then they can swap)
Many thanks0 -

The Sansa ones you can easily "drag and drop" ie drag the relevant file you have downloaded onto your PC/laptop and then drag it onto the open folder of the Sansa you will have on your PC screen aswell) and yes they should have a connecting lead as this is how they are charged up usually via USB
The Sansa ones are usually expandable memory wise by micro SD cards as well whioch is useful as you can pop stuff onto them directly from PC and swap them over on the mp3's0 -
My Nephew used his mum's old iPod nano from a young age (5ish I think) and he loves music so much! Kids always seem to love music and dancing from an early age and they'll probably have started to developed their own taste in Music by that age (My nephew was really into Michael Jackson at that age!? Hehe!) He's never had any problem figuring out technology and gadgets - he loves them infact! - so I would say at 7 they should easily be able to use any kind of MP3 player. All the kids I know could use a computer/tablet/touch screen phone from about 5 so I wouldn't worry about it being fiddly. I think it's a great idea and audio books was a great suggestion. My niece and nephew prefer over the ear headphones rather than earphones - they both have Sony kids ones in cool colours. What a lovely gift idea!

Personally I would say no, I don't like the idea of young children plugging themselves into gadets at such a young age. It's good for them to entertain themselves but not in isolation like that.0
