Try to find the holes where they are coming from. I had the ants in the living room every year, then lastyear I came home in the summer from work, and my kitchen was full of flying ants, made me physically sick, and I had to hoover them up, its really upsetting, had to check my food and thankfully none got in the cupboards. As I hoovered them off the wall I saw more crawling out, then once under control I bent down and found a hole in the bottom corner of the wall and filled it with silicone sealant. Had no problems sincebut they go under the flags of the house, through the walls etc, you have to keep an eye on any holes you see.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230

I used to get ants regularly in the kitchen of the last house I lived in. My home for the last 10 years is a 3 storey house with the kitchen on the first floor and no ant sems to climb that high.
However the only thing I ever found that was any use against ants was a spray called Dethlac. You spray it around windows and doors and the smell is dreadful. I'm not sure if it is still on the market but it was very effective.if i had known then what i know now0 -
Im glad i found this thread
yesterday in my hous eit was attakc fo the flying ants - was sat on comp adn saw somethign out of the corner of my eye - there is a hole in the sealent around the window and they were coming in - regular blakc ants and flyign ones - so blasted them with the ant raid stuff (red bottle) and they quickly died.
Then sat watchgin adn suddenly more appeared but they were flying form behind me - moved the fridge and there was a crack behind it where they were coming in - luckily another blast with the raid seems to have killed them all off for now and have had no more since - think i will find some different ant kilelr though as i think there is a nest outside my living room window and i want to put soemthign on the window sill to stop the little sods coming back againTime to find me again0 -
From Sunday 6th July, Aldi are selling a pack of 2 ant traps for £1.99.
I don't know if they are any good but I am going to give them a try.

I came home one year to find my kitchen floor covered in flying ants , now im not normally bothered by the odd ant or two and if they are in the garden i see no reason to kill them , however i was slightly freaked out to see a room full of them lol.
I shut the door and went to buy some ant killer , fortunately there was none to be found in the shops i tried because when i came home there was not one ant to be seen , all flown away.0 -
If you have no ant killer any old spray you have knocking about, such as hairspray, air freshener or deodorant will work as well - just make sure you ventilate well afterwards! And remember that spray will only solve the immediate problem and kill the flying ants, the nest will remain. Sometimes if you have lots of flying ants in the house it's a sign that there's an ant nest in the wall cavity, in which case you need bait traps for workers to take back and kill the nest - otherwise you'll have the same problem every year.
We use peppermint essential oil along door and window frames to stop ants from wondering in. It works really well. I have heard of vaseline being used for the same thing, though it sounds a little messy to me!0 -
I have got up this morning to loads of black ants in the kitchen, seemingly heading for the cupboard where there is a (sticky) jar of golden syrup grrrr
Sent OH to buy Nippon, but in the meantime I put the jar of syrup outside by where they are coming in in the hope that a closer food source will stop them heading in.

My Mum had the same problem with flying ants getting into her flat. Last year, she bought a PestX plug in ant repellent and not one ant has appeared since! it wasn't cheap, about £25ish, but it was money well spent.
If you google Pest X you should find it - they sell different products for different pests.Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0
