Grrr, ants. They're making hillocks in my lawn again. Is there anything non-chemical I can do about it? (Hot water is out... still have bald patches from last year...)
    My TV is broken!

Ants seem to be quite intelligent. We have a nest at the bottom of our front path which I do not want to destroy. However, when they come into the porch through the ventilation bricks I do object. I put some Nippon down by the vent about 4 years ago and I have not seen an ant in the porch for about 3 yrs. Now woodlice are a different matter!

Get a deep shag carpet or rug, they just flip over and die.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.

I'm plagued by both red and black ants in the garden  Just spotted some reds in my potato patch, will they cause any harm to the spuds?

"Ant stop" has worked for us. It claims to stop them for 3 months and we still don't have them back after using it last year outdoors near the kitchen.

  • I put my Nippon down yesterday and after they had a 'feast' they went and have not been back today, not sure if this means it was a very small nest and they're gone!

It's the brand name of a powder or spray gun ant killer. Same as Nippon but I find it works better.

I have seen it in Tescos, Wilkinsons and garden centres. Red containers, I use the spray bottle one myself. It cleared them all.

We had some that came in by the electricity meter last year too. We had them in the hallway. I used the "Ant Stop" indoors and they cleared, we could then fill the gap we found where they came in.

Gardening-girl when I first posted said she filled in where the ants were comiing in. I was thinking about it myself, but I've not had any ants today so I'm not sure whether to or not.

I may try putting ant stop power outside on my window, just to be sure.
    Thanks

Apparently a product called Just Ants is available. This is a preparation of eelworms mixed with water and is supposed to work well. The supplier is "Just Green" on 0800 3896002. Haven't tried it myself, but a gardener friend mentioned it last year.
