I used to live in Kenya and the termites and bugs were everywhere - one product that worked was Raid powder - ants loved it and were never seen again - I don't look for it when shopping but have seen Raid sprays so there must be a powder somewhere in B&Q or somewhere similar'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632

We already have a similar thread posted earlier today, so I'll merge the two together to keep all the replies in one place.
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post has been moved to another thread, where it should get more replies. I find the gel works a treat, made by Nippon ... you have to keep applying it at the places where they emerge (window sill, crack in wall, etc) and it can take 2 weeks but it definitely works ... your ants nest could be huge so you will have to be persistent but at least the gel is not very visible.Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale - Hans Christian Andersen2012 savings:remortgage £156.15pcm £5 pcm insurance reduced; 2012 Running totals: £10 goodwill requests/Grocery Coupons £12:T0

Does anyone one know how I'd go about finding the nest? I'm figuring if I can get them at there it'll make life a lot easier.0

We use a wonderful product called (I think) Ant Bait station which are little sealted plastic discs containing poison with a small hole which allows the ants to enter. They take the stuff back to their nests and within 24 hours they're all dead. But they go mad for the stuff so you will see the number of ants increase before they die. You can get these from Robert Dyas and other hardware type shops. The discs come attached to a piece of cardboard.0

I had Ants in droves every year until I bought a couple of the plug in Rodent elimimators. Now the Ants stay out and in 3 years I've never had them in the house - touch wood!Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

we have had ants this year.. i thought it was a bit early myself.. they were all over the work top and coming out of the lightswitch the other morning.. it makes me feel soooooooo uncomfortable and itchy !!!!!!!
we bought some powder from the newsagents and put it down all over the place.. we have had a few stragglers around the house but nothing like what we had the other day... but we are going to try and do a proper sort out of the house and hopefully find the nest0 -
Not sure if this is the right board,
Anyway, I've lived in my house for 4 years and never had ants, but in the last few days I've noticed on or two in my window sill, I've just had the whole house re pointed, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I've looked around and it seems that Nippon is a popular way to get rid of them, however I wanted to know whether to put it down now while there's only 1 or 2 or wait till there's more. I know it may sound silly, I'd like to get rid of hte nest while it's still small but I wondered if one or two ants taking the stuff back would be sufficiant?
Or has anyone any other tips on how to deal with this?
Many thanks in advance

Have a look next time you see any and watch where they go back to, that should show you where they are coming in and out from. When we had a problem with ants we sealed the holes up with the silicone filler you use around baths! If the hole is big enough put some ant powder or nippon inside then seal up the hole. I wonder if the re-pointing has sealed up their way out so they are now coming indoors. Ants can eat their way through bricks and mortar!
Also make sure there are no food crumbs laying around or you will have an army of them in next to no time!0 -

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
When I posted this morning there was one or two ants, quick shower for me and the children and when I came back there was a few.
I spent a few hours making sure the living room was spotless and banned any food and drink from the re until they're gone.
As I said I (well my landlord) had the house re pointed, but I do have damp around my very old windows and the paper is peeling, it appears they're coming in there, but exactly I can't tell, I nipped to Wilko's and bought some Nippon, put it on the widdow sill and within a few mins there was around 30 or so feeding in it.
All the bait is was 'eaten' and the ants dissapeared, for now!
I hope it won't take long for the Nippon to work or they just eat their way backthrough the mortorbecause it's making me itch.
