Crazy banging washing machine!

OKay, bought a refurb washng machine fomr a local place some 12 months ago, and suddenly whenever it hits the spin cycle it's going nuts! And I truly mean nuts - like trying to escape the gap in the cabinets, slamming against the floor and sides with some real force. It's got to the point where I don't want to use it as it has to be annoying the neighbours when there's two minutes of hell breaking out every day or so.
I can't afford a new one, so does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Is it a drum imbalance, not enough weight in it? HELP!
Thanks,
Majik

Its likely to be of the following;
Bearings;
You will most likely be hearing grinding noises if the bearings are gone but if not you can check this by opening the door and trying to physically move the drum back and forward and sideways.
Counterbalance weight moved;
You will need to take the back off the machine to check this one.
Usually there will be one or more large weights at the bottom on the machine to counterbalance the rotational force. They may be bolted on and one may have slipped off its mount so check that out.
Levelling;
Check that the machine is level to the floor by placing a spirit level on top.
The feet are usually screwed in and can be adjusted to level the machine.
Load distribution;
This one is down to you.....dont overload the machine it causes an imbalance in the rotor leading to noise and the machine dancing across the floor.
Good luck.0 -

It sounds very much like your outlet pipe is blocked or your pump isn't working.
With your washing machine switched OFF pull the machine out from where it is and carefully tip it back. Have someone hold it for you if possible.
Then squeeze the hose that sits under the machine between the drum and the pump to check that there isn't a sock or something in there to block it.
If not - gently try turning the fan on the pump. Wires from bras often block it.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Do you wash underwired bras? Have one of these wire gone missing? This has happened to me loads of times! They tend to work their way out - otherwise its the repairman!!!!! Good luck...0

If it is - just take the hose off, grab the wire, put the hose back on.
On newer washing machines the pump isn't screwed in - it fits more like a lightbulb on a sort of bayonet fitting. In that case, turn the pump till it releases, clear the problem, click and turn it back in.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Is it an Indesit?
If so, take the top cover off and tighten the bolts in the concrete block on top of the drum..0 -
I had the same thing with my Hotpoint. I took the lid off and a bolt securing the concrete block hadn't been tightened properly and was punching up into the lid. I tightened it down with a spanner and its been fine since.0

The machine should have been fitted with transit bolts or brackets which need to be removed. These stop the drum moving whilst in transit, if they are not removed you get the symptoms you have described. With the lid removed, make sure the drum moves freely on the springs and is not connected to the machine casing by bolts or brackets. If it is attached, remove the bolts or brackets.
Hope that helpsDon't ask me, Im SKINT0 -
Sounds like the Bearings have gone,not a cheap job,most bearings are now moulded into the drum,and realy not worth repairing.get a enginner to a free check.0

I remember years ago my Mum had to call a chap out to fix the washing machine and it was something like a Tazo (old walkers promotional plastic disc thingy) blocking the tube.
Since I got my own machine I try and check pockets before putting stuff in and always put anything underwired into a little bag, just incase! You can get laundry bags most places, got mine from lakeland limited's online store...
I know that doesn't really help your dilemma but hopefully as a general tip it might save some machines!!
Spend Money to save money...oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!0 -
I think you will find that the most likely cause is that the shock absorber(s) has failed.0
