Blunt. And wrong. Someone in Royal Mail stole the money. The blame lies with that person, the thief.

Claiming that the blame lies with the sender is like claiming a rape victim deserved it for the way they dressed.

No you are wrong, its common sense not to send cash in the post.
You cant blame the Royal mail, if some nasty individual wants to steal someones money.

However if the sender had sent it by special delivery and insured the contents, they would have got the money back.

    Advise from postoffice website....

It’s usually safe to send money through the post, but take care and follow these tips. Over 82 million letters and parcels are collected and delivered in the UK every day so although most arrive safely and on time, occasionally an item will go astray.
If you’re sending cash or valuables, we recommend you use Special Delivery™. When sending cash using Special Delivery™ you can add on:
    • up to £2,500 compensation for loss or damage
    • up to £10,000 compensation for consequential loss

I feel sorry for postmen and women sometimes, they are taken for granted so much.

So, if someone steals something it is the fault of the victim? Do you blame rape victims for wearing revealing clothes? If someone is burgled, is it their fault if they don't have an alarm? If someone is beaten up, is it their fault for looking at their attacker's girlfriend? You seem to have a very perverse view if your blame the victim for a crime.

You are correct in that you can't blame Royal Mail but this doesn't mean that you can't blame the person who stole the money.

Just because someone did something that goes against common sense doesn't give another person the right to break the law as a result.

It's common sense not to leave valuables on display in a car, but if someone made a mistake and did this, is it then okay for someone to smash a window to steal them?

So everyone's thieving and corrupt really, the people posting and the people sorting!

I know it costs nothing extra to post a cheque, as I said twice it wasn't me, this old auntie decided to send cash though, I will make sure she doesn't do it again!

I'm a postie and i'm not a thief thankyou very much!

You are implying Royal Mail should take the blame for every piece of item lost or stolen in the post. If this was the case everyone would be claiming for lost or stolen post, regardless if they are telling the truth.

Back to the original point, if it was possible to get the culprit I am sure the Royal Mail would get him/her and fire them, but it would be impossible to do so, hence why they give advice not to send cash (uninsured) in the post.

And stop comparing this with rape, you are going way OTT.

Can you not understand the simple fact that if someone steals something it is not the fault of the victim and it is not the fault of the thief's employer. It is the fault of the THIEF.

It's not being compared with rape. It's an analogy to illustrate your rather odd view of crime where you blame the victim for the actions of the criminal. That is EXACTLY what some people do in the event of a rape.

They went against advice of the service provider, therefore it was at there own risk.
  • Posties are more often than not, delivering on a regular route. I suggest going to your delivery office to inform the manager of your issue, the more complaints from a specific area can narrow down the problem incase its in your delivery office. Honest posties dont want tarred with the same brush as the thieves.

Royal mail have their own investigation team that will sit and monitor suspects and when ready can set a trap for their sticky fingers.

Your visit to the delivery office could help catch somebody.

But some of your colleagues are, so what are your company doing to protect the mail?

Why shouldn't I be able to send cash in the post? Are we to assume it WILL be stolen?

Yes, it was at their own risk, no, that does not make them to blame for the theft. Can you not understand the difference?
