Royal Mail

My step daughter had a birthday card through the post the other day - put it to one side for her birthday and then realised it had been slit open on the sideways edge - very neatly, obviously not an accidentally rip, and the £20 note I have been told was inside it had been removed.
Called Royal mail and was basically told that it could have happened at any point from posting in the letter box to getting to the house and didnt even get an apology!
RUDE!

This is a lesson to learn, never send cash in post, or if you really really have to, then use insured special delivery.
I am afraid the blame lays at the sender not Royal Mail on this occassion.
Sorry for being so blunt.0 -

Yeah, it's a sad reflection on the RM that you have to pay ~£4.50 to ensure they don't steal from you. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Never send cash through the post.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

No I know, I would never send cash through the post unfortunatly this old auntie is more trusting!
Just thought it was sad reflection on the state of affairs of the Royal Mail!0 -
Of course no-one would ever be dishonest enough to turn up at a Royal mail sorting office with a slit envelope and claim that the cash had been in the envelope when it was posted!
Which is a sad reflection of some people in our society!
So saying it costs nothing extra to post a cheque!

So everyone's thieving and corrupt really, the people posting and the people sorting!
I know it costs nothing extra to post a cheque, as I said twice it wasn't me, this old auntie decided to send cash though, I will make sure she doesn't do it again!0 -
I would write to the Royal Mail and note that you're not claiming for the lost money, but wanted to alert them to the loss. They're unlikely to compensate in full because the correct method of postage wasn't used, but they'll probably send a book of stamps anyway. More importantly, they will want to know when things do get stolen so they can try and work out some sort of pattern if at all possible.0

Someone might be dishonest enough to do that but would they be stupid enough?
What would be the point in wasting time (and possibly money) doing what you suggest when there is absolutely zero chance of getting any compensation from RM.0 -

This bit of the thread is in danger of going round and round in ever-decreasing circles ...
ETA I'm somewhat surprised that RM still do Postal orders, still as pricey as ever!

Blunt. And wrong. Someone in Royal Mail stole the money. The blame lies with that person, the thief.
Claiming that the blame lies with the sender is like claiming a rape victim deserved it for the way they dressed.0
