Vulnerable Uncle

You have to mention it at the review, it's "financial abuse" - It could be the reason why he tried to commit suicide in the first place, and a lot of people being taking advantage of in this way, won't admit too it or tell anyone, perhaps from fear, maybe he's lonely and it's his only friend etc.
I think it's pretty obvious how sickening this other person is that they have went and cashed all those cheques whilst he was in hospital, utterly repulsive.
Please do bring it up at the review you don't know if your Uncle is desperate to leave to attempt sucide again.0 -
It should be brought up at the review, and I guess the trick is not to speculate but simply to say there's something very bizarre going on with uncle's finances which you don't understand and you don't believe he understands fully either..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thanks all
Thats a good idea to mention it like that Errata, I will speak to sister and tell her to phrase it like that.
I really don't think its blackmail more that Uncle is trying to spite his own family by making sure nothing is left to them, which is fair enough its his money to do what he likes but he is going to end up penniless if he carries on!
I do think he needs to be protected from himself. And from his "friend".
When I say he isn't a nice man, its not that he isn't generous, he is and always has been, he has offered my family money but we have never taken anything as he needs it himself! However its his behaviour that is at fault. He is rude and opinionated and frankly not very bright but thinks everyone is more stupid than himself. Here is an example, he was refusing to pay his water bill because water is free, it comes out of the sky!
I've spoken to his family they have enough problems of their own, his three daughters one at the age of 30 lives with her mom, on anti depress, doesn't like men, the second is going tho a divorce and the third is suffering from severe depression. I think you can guess why his family have nothing to do with him....... However now I know we have done our duty.
I'll update the thread when I know what the review team say. Thanks everyone. But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!

And liable to fall foul of the deprivation of capital rules.0 -

Unfortunately we have Huntingtons disease in our family.
This is a genetic disease which is passed from your Parents down to their children, and I would expect that if neither of your parents were diagnosed with this terrible illness, there is a very low percentage chance of you inheriting it - please dont worry.0 -

Thank you. I heard the gene can be recessive, so you can be a carrier but not show any systems, that's if I read it right.
I've had an inkling for a while this is the case, My grandfather was supposed to have parkinsons but as an aunt was put into a mental health hosp 20 years ago with behaviour and twitching and my other aunt at the funeral was a mirror image of my Uncle, but with a very supportive family and no anger issues. (but she is confused)
My father shows no signs at all.
Its just scary for it to be put into reality rather than speculation. But if ever I stray from the path I follow

Just an update on this.
The social worker assigned to my uncle has been informed of the money as my sister and father attended a house visit where my father confronted my Uncle about the money. He has denied he wrote the cheques (he has) and claims he only knows of the "loan" for £5,000.
There have been several other unpaid bills such as his council tax and the bailiffs are now involved. We have paid his council tax but there still be a charge of approx 800.00 for "costs".
The social worker has now contacted the police and they are going to interview my Uncle. But if ever I stray from the path I follow

Hi - there is a very good chance that these costs are illegal. The reason being that bailiffs routinely pre-load CT debts with fees that they might be able to collect in certain circumstances that have not occured yet and charge fees for several liaibility orders when they are only allowed to charge for one. It is not unusual for people on the debt free forum to get back £200-250 for one liability order, or reduce the debt by that amount.
Have a ferret on the DFW forum for posts by hallowitch and send the fees letter that she posts there. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
