I'm in the market for a new printer myself.

As I don't print that often it'll be a laser printer I'll go for. Inkjets dry up quickly if they are not used regularly, and you use a lot of ink cleaning the heads. I do a little bit of copying so I'll probably go multifunctional.

I wouldn't consider buying a cheap inkjet printer, as it's a false economy.

When you buy one, the cartridges are only 1/4 full, and to replace them would cost the same as buying a new printer again.

Check out the specifications for costs of ink replacement, and maybe buy a cheap mono laser printer £100? As the toner will last far longer than any cheap inkjet.

Cheaper in the long term. Nothing to break or snap off, and buy seperate scanner if required, what do they cost thesedays? £10?

my cartridges are made in the UK ratboy, and my supplier via ebay is in the UK, i never buy ink cartridges from outside the UK.
and as far as i'm aware there are only 2 companies in the UK that actually make ink, they supply Epson, canon, HP etc, epson themselves make printers and the cartridges, so its quite LEGAL for the ink companies to make ink for epson's compatible providing they dont use the recipe for epson's, slightly different but fully compatible.
    I dont call it Theft,
Theft is charging £30 for a set of 4 for a printer. when is costs a few quid to make the cartridges and ink
I think their profits per set of cartridge is about £25 a set for the idiots that wont buy compatibles, its called a market.
They dont care if people buy compatibles, they just say that invalidates the warranty of the printer and wont replace / repair it.

If they don't have need for colour printing ,I would certainly go for a mono laser printer.Plenty of Samsungs for about £50.Bought one a year ago (samsung ML-2168 )and never looked back.

If you are buying refills/cartridges from eBay, then you are buying counterfit goods, if they are not manufactured by the Manufacturer, unless some idiot bought a job lot at reduced price, and is able to sell through such a dodgy untraceable, then at some stage, the law has been broken.

There is no way a genuine cartridge would be sold on ebay, unless it's either been refilled, illegally, stolen, or manufactured in China, and is illegal. Please post your source, so that I can pass it on to the police.

    Absolute rubbish.

Just because a cartridge isn't produced by the manufacturer of the printer, doesn't mean it is counterfeit.

Only counterfeit if they try to pass them off as originals.
    Move along, nothing to see.

So a cartridge of the same specification, made to the same specs as the origional, doesn't mean it is a counterfeit?

    Explain!

    Because you asked so nicely....

Counterfeit means that you are infringing the trademark or passing off a product as being that of someone else. If it is simply a replacement or spare and there is no likelihood of confusion of being from the OEM then it is not counterfeit.

In the same way that the exhaust pipe I put on my car isn't from the manufacturer of the car.

No unless it's marketed as a manufacturer's original. It's perfectly legit as long as it's described as a compatible, which it will be if the seller is reputable.

(Text removed by forum team) if all these ink sellers on EBAY, which are UK BASED, and where selling as he puts it counterfeit ink cartridges doesnt he think that they would have been reported to trading standards for selling them and then ebay themselves would close their aka the sellers accounts down. NO infact all the ink sellers use the word COMPATIBLES, its upto the BUYER to decide whether they want to use cheaper cartridges which do exactly the same as the original in that I mean they fit into the printer, and allow you to print out whatever your printing. The cartridges I bought dont look like the original cartridges, they are the same size in width, height and depth, but where epsons have EPSON written on them, they just have the colour of the cartridge.
Now he'll probably say about the damage these compatibles do to the printer.
I have had this printer for 4years, and have used compatibles in it for 3years+, with no problems caused by the ink. infact the pictures I've printed using compatibles have lasted longer than the pictures i did with epsons ink. No quality loss.
The only trouble i got at the moment is a printer driver issue cause by me.
somehow i managed to get 2 epson sx200 icons in printers, 1 worked and 1 didnt, so i removed the non working one and that deleted both.
but had nothing to do with the ink.
