Strange call from B.T. or was it B.T.?

:question:Had a strange telephone call this morning from someone claiming that my computer has a virus and he wanted me to connect to his web site which was the BT Broadband mainframe to get the problem fixed.
The call was from a number that was unavailable and sounded like a man with an Indian accent he was very insistant that I should connect to this web site.
I asked him for his telephone number and he said I will give you my number afterwards and then I said to him to have a nice day and closed the conversation.
Could anyone shed any light on this please.

If he did, indeed, use the word "mainframe" I wouldn't have been able to carry on with the call due to picking up my spleen from laughing so much.0

Many thank's for this very intersting link and the story is very good indeed, played him at his own game.:)
The background noise sounded as though he was not alone as I could hear many voices and machines in the background.0 -

BT mainframe? He was probably referring to this one (a recent upgrade I believe):

Nice one macman... It was my OH that answered the call and she was all set to follow his instructions but could not make out his accent and said to him 'I will get my OH to connect to your web site'
Thats when I became involved. He must have been trying to sell a 'Tune Up' programme or the likes.0
