Problems with Pills

My local chemist pops the pills out for me into 'normal' bottles. Some of the staff have a moan about doing it, but most are ok about it. They do sometimes forget though so I have one of those things that kitschkitty posted. Only cost a couple of £ and it is a huge help for me if I need to pop any pills. The only problem I have with it is with some really tiny pills I have that I can't get it to pop.0

I looked at the review for the pill poppers on Amazon and they are a mixed bag from excellent to a waste of money. It looks as if it will not be able to cope with the very different sizes of tablets I take. From the very tiny to the long solid ones to the paracetamel ones.
I think the chemists dispensing them ready to take is an option which I will discuss with my GP.
Thanks all again.0 -
Dossets don't work for me because my medication times are all over the shop and some need to live in the fridge. My GP writes a code on the script for non-child proof packaging and I request bottles when I hand my prescription in. For lots of things I need to go back a few days later as they need to order the bottled ones in but it has made life easier.0

Have to admit I only take 1 type of tablets, but hate getting them out of the blister packaging and have repeatedly had the plastic go under my fingernail when pushing out the pills. I preferred it when the chemist gave me all my tablets in a bottle, not all boxed & blister packed.
But as mentioned above by the other posters if you do take various things that you need to keep to a schedule for the dosette boxes may be really useful to you.
I will freely admit that even though I only take tablets twice a day if I don't have them ready counted out in my 7 day pill box I simply can't remember if I've taken them or not, even 5 minutes after!
Don't worry, you are not alone! The older I get more pills I take and the quicker I forget.
Kleeneeze catalogues also do a pill popper, £2.75 but if you can get it through a rep you don't pay any postage.0 -
I make my tablets up for a week at a time.
I use small "vending machine like cups" makes my life far easier tablet wise0 -
Thanks so much kitschkitty, been having so many problems with pill packets lately, hopefully this will work0

I'm so glad you brought this up, today is my 'fill the pill box' day. It takes me up to an hour to get all the pills into my dosette, and my fingers really struggle to open the blister packs with capsules in - as you just crush the soft capsule instead.
I'm going to ask the pharmacy to do it - or put in a bottle, I can just see them being happy about putting 240 pills worth / week into a bottleUnite Disability Champion & Equality Rep0 -
Thanks again for recommending the pill popper- arrived a few days ago and it's fab.
Not much good for my small ones however it is perfect for the large ones which I was was having trouble with.0 -
Just a though - have you had a medicine review lately. Often people with poly-pharmacy don't have regular medicine reviews and end up taking drugs they no longer need, drugs that have been superceded by better drugs or have multiple drugs that do the same thing prescribed by different practitioners. Don't be offended if you do have regular reviews xx0
