Is there a mobility aid to help get pills out of their foil wrappers?
I was also looking to get a pill splitter but think there are some on Amazon unless the GP will give me one?
I know you can ask GP for an authorisation that my Chemist will dispense pills combined in 'easy to use' doses but not sure if that would work for me. I take so many pills which must be taken at different times of the day. One an hour after eating and not to eat for an hour after. Two that need taking in water. Those that must be taken with food, before food or after food. No wonder I get confused which I do.

It sounds like you'd be better off having your medication dispensed into a Dosette box by the chemist..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I use one of these & is this something like could be arranged?
I think I may cause mayhem as every time I see my GP, or one of a couple of different consultants my medications (either type or dosage) are tweaked :rotfl:

Either talk to your Practice or the chemist. It doesn't matter if the meds are regularly changed, the chemist will dispense into the box according to the prescription..................

I use a nail file to stab the foil open as my hands are stiff, and always sit on the bed to open any containers or packets as it is a wide flat surface and things don't roll as they do on a table. It sounds like you'd be better off having your medication dispensed into a Dosette box by the chemist.
MiL has a dosette box with a timer, but BiL has to fill it for her.
Maybe that is just north of the border?I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I fill my own boxes. But the dd had problems popping the pills out the foils, so does my mum, dislocates their fingers :wall: The pharmacist makes up both their boxes up into , Breakfast, lunch, tea and supper.
Like you my mum has several to take in between those times, so if it's in between morning and lunch, they will put those in the morning one. She then fishes them out and puts them in an egg cup at the side of her bed for example.
Luxor - a lot of pharmacies north of the border do this too, but you have to request it4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Although bog standard dosette boxes are split into four daily times, a chemist may know of 'specials' which are split more frequently than that..................

Or you can use two so that you have eight options for each day.
You can write the time on the lid of each section to make it easier to remember when to take the tablets.0 -
You mean one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blister-Pack-Pill-Popper-Arthritis-Aid-Tablet-Dispenser-/300587454821?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Mobility_Disability_Medical_ET&hash=item45fc689165
Have to admit I only take 1 type of tablets, but hate getting them out of the blister packaging and have repeatedly had the plastic go under my fingernail when pushing out the pills. I preferred it when the chemist gave me all my tablets in a bottle, not all boxed & blister packed.
But as mentioned above by the other posters if you do take various things that you need to keep to a schedule for the dosette boxes may be really useful to you.
I will freely admit that even though I only take tablets twice a day if I don't have them ready counted out in my 7 day pill box I simply can't remember if I've taken them or not, even 5 minutes after!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Looks very handy4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Thanks all for your replies and help
kitschkitty very useful gadget :T
I never thought of using two of the pill boxes but my short term memory has shot it and I can't remember my actions even minutes after they have been taken. I have occasionally OD'd so my wife has to monitor me :eek:0
