PVR little storage space left - what to do?

I have a humax PVR which is now almost full.

I would like to keep a lot of the stuff I've recorded - mostly old films and music programmes and transfer them off it to free up some space.

Any ideas on the most economical and practical way to do this please?

Many thanks for all advice/suggestions from someone not very tech literate.

im not sure about installing a larger hard drive with humax units but a simple way might be to get a cheapish dvd recorder and hook it up the the av output of your humax to copy from your hard drive to DVD, can be time consuming as it has to play while recording at real time.

Without knowing which model you have, Joe's advice is good - you should have AV outputs (RGB SCART will be best) to a DVD burner. However, lots of Humax models will have better options, like plugging a USB drive in and copying over, or even taking the hard drive out of the Humax, connecting it to your computer, copying stuff onto computer, then you can delete it from the Humax. You would then convert the stuff into a better format on the computer to save space.
Let us know the model number and I'm sure someone has 'been there, done that'.

Before going to any expense or technical difficulty, ask yourself honestly whether you'll ever watch any of these films and programmes again. I'm certain you could just as easily delete most of these items to free up the space for more.
Remember, a PVR isn't designed to be used as a permanent archive, it's supposed to be for time-shifting your viewing. If you truly want such an archive, you might want to invest in a DVD recorder or just buy the films on DVD or Blu-Ray.

When it comes down to it, if the disk's full, then the chances are you will never watch a lot of the stuff on it. It's a sign that you're recording more than you're watching.

Last time I found myself in that situation, I went in and deleted entire TV series that I had recorded and not watched.

If it's a Humax, the chances are you can plug in a portable hard drive in the usb socket and then use the File Manager function on the box to transfer your files to the Hard Drive. I currently have a 1Tb drive in my Humax Freesat, and then another 2Tb portable hard drive plugged into the usb socket at the back to store films etc on.
