Hi Alexcross1. Like Fishybuisness, I also have 2 of these heaters. Some of the claims made by many of these panel manufacturers can sound incredible- in a burdensome way. 70% less than conventional heating sounds grossly exaggerated.
There is however one flip side to this, and I have been looking for answers from reputable companies like 'Dimplex'. Dimplex state that their radiant heaters may 'possibly' be more cost effective because heat is not lost to 'stratification'. I take it that 'stratification' means 'heat layers' caused by convection. Most heaters cause the best of the heat to rise when it is transferred onto the air. Since radiant heaters deal with the 'electromagnetic infrared rays', the heat can be directed into a room, or a person. The argument here is that 'all electrical heaters are 100% efficient at producing heat', however 'convection' might waste some of that heat requiring larger wattages from the heater to create comfortable heat. Therefore how the heater delivers that heat could impact on power usage. I have personally found them to deliver reasonable heat without causing massive increases on my electric bill. Whatever one thinks of these heaters with regards to economy, the heat is pleasant, and there are cheap ones being sold.
