Faulty Xbox 360

The 3 red lights can be fixed for about £5 if you have an xbox thats out of warrnaty or have broken the seal messing around inside.
Search google for "x clamp replacement" loads of free info there.
Parts can be had from ebay (8 bolts and some washers).
There seems to be a good 95% + success rate although its not clear how long it lasts before the error comes back, some people reporting repeat failures and others not.
I've fixed a faulty xbox so can confirm it works.0 -
Despite what you may think about highstreet retailers, some of us do know consumer rights. Not only is this person entitled to a replacement but will get no argument and no 'laughing in their face' because unlike DSG and Argos, we are a specialist and therefore know far more about the product (and it's known faults). Please correct your mistake, as it is insulting to the staff at GAME who work hard to fix people's problems and emphasise good customer service over anything else.
I'm afraid even GAME sometimes need reminding of their responsibilities:
Xbox 360 replaced & surprising letter from Game HO

Following on from my last post about Game, I think it's only fair that I describe my experience with returning an Xbox360 to them today.
My friend left his 2005 Xbox360 with me whilst he's off on a Kibbutz in Israel and it's been acting up a lot, freezing in R6Vegas online. Microsoft insisted it was probably just that game as it didn't happen with any others but I exchanged the disc and it still happened.
Anyway, about a week ago, strange things started happening, like I downloaded the Condemned 2 demo and when I played it, it locked up after about a minute with pixelation all over the screen. Then on Saturday, I got the Ring of Death.
Luckily, there was still 5 days left on the 12 month warranty from Game, so I took it in today, minus the hard drive ('cos I didn't want to risk it getting knocked about and losing my profiles/save games) and they just swapped out the console for a brand new 2008 model. They even included a new hard drive, even though I told the assistant that I hadn't brought the old one with me
The new console is a lot quieter and I'm sure my friend will be chuffed that he's got a new one. The only thing is that they told me that the warranty isn't renewed and I only get the one exchange but the assistant did say that if there's a "manufacturing fault" they would probably still replace it again.0 -

despite claims about the sale of goods act as amended there is no automatic right to a replacement after goods have been accepted, there is a clause that allows for replacement if the repair will cause undue inconvenience to the consumer but this would be hard to prove for a games consoleclick here to achieve nothing!0 -

Great news Doveman.
I wonder if it could have been because Game read this?0 -

No, Game offer a 12 month warranty themselves so I used that. As other people have said, the Sale of Goods Act actually means that any product they sell should last for a reasonable period, which in the case of an expensive item like an Xbox360 is more than 12 months, but it's likely they'd argue about that and you'd have to put pressure on them to comply.0 -

As it was under the 12 month warranty, I wasn't expecting much trouble exchanging it but I was surprised that they didn't even test it and just asked me what the problem was.
I took the spare hard drive to CEX and got £30 exchange for it, so I topped it up with £8 cash and got a copy of COD4, which I've wanted for a while but couldn't afford, so I'm well chuffed :j0
