Seems odd that it sees the device and ther's no sound. No harm in trying the disc.
If you right click on the taskbar on the cross and select playback devices, on the playback tab, are the speakers listed and selected as the default device? if so, try right clicking on the speakers icon and make sure they're enabled.
On my laptop, there's 3 playback devices listed and I have to make sure the 'speakers' are selected or I get no sound0 -

hey flashg67, on the contray, the speakers are NOT listed under devices.
i have right clicked on the cross in the toolbar. under "playback" it says "no audio devices are installed"
I put the disc in for the motherboard and it appears to simply be a online manual, and gives me a option to "create a raid floppy"Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -

I think you might be down to looking for the drivers on the PC manufacturers' website for the audio device drivers, presuming it's a branded PC - if you can find the make & model number, you should be able to find them,or post the make/model?0 -

I'm not sure if we're at cross purposes!? The 'no audio device installed' message is referring to the fact that the sound card inside your PC hasn't been installed, which means that whatever you plug into the audio jack won't work, because the PC hasn't been 'told' (by installing software (drivers) ) how to make any sounds. (You could check this by plugging in some headphones/other speakers to check?). If other speakers or headphones do work, then I'm stumped! If they don't, I still maintain you need to get the sound card drivers from the PC or motherboard manufacturers website.0

stupid question, but if you right click on the speaker, choose volume control options, is the speaker ticked and is all devices currently playing sound box ticked too?
Also if you right click on the speaker, choose open volume mixer, under the speaker slider is a picture of a loudspeaker, if this picture has a no entry on it, then just move the mouse to it and left click, this fives me a no entry sign next to my speaker on win 8 too0 -

On the part where it says 'Download drivers' - download the relevent drivers for your soundcard.
Also - make sure - you didn't plug your speakers into the wrong port. Green IIRC????0 -

ok, i added some headphones, and success, I manage to hear a track from you tube. I assume this therefore means it is a speaker issue then, and not a software issue?????Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
