If you said you booked flights, they aren't part of a package holiday. only package holidays are.

The OP booked flights and car hire which *in theory* could be a package. I doubt very much it is though.

Their definition of a package is:

"A "Package" exists if you book at the same time, or within a day, a combination of two or more travel components (excluding insurance)."

So by their terms I think I have a package. I'll check my paperwork later to see if the parts are priced separately, I seem to remember one bit having individual costings while one had combined.

"ring them and ask" does look to be the only way to go. I didn't want to waste my time and theirs if anyone knew the answer.

I agree, we regularly book flights and car hire as a fly-drive package.

It's possible, but I think the fact you paid the full amount is a significant indicator that this may not be.
We have only ever paid a deposit when booking a fly-drive package, with the balance due a couple of months before travelling.

I checked my paperwork. On my invoice, all the costs are lumped in together. The only place that has the individual costs is on the ATOL certificate that shows how much the flights were and how much the car hire was.

I don't even see an option to book flights + car with an AI price so I still doubt you purchased a package but there's no point continuing to guess about it. Just call them and find out for sure.

    the next paragraph reads

A “Single Component” is an individual item provided by our suppliers, such as a flight on its own, accommodation on its own, or car hire on its own. Where you book a Single Component and then go on to add another Single Component to compliment the first booking, this is a non-Package booking (unless both Components were booked within a day of each other).

Even by that paragraph if you booked the 2 things seperate but within 24 hours it is a package.

having said all that I still dont think you will be able to cancel and only lose a deposit because apart from anything else you didnt pay one.

I may be wrong of course

You should have received an ATOL Certificate if you booked after October 1st 2012. Have a look and see what it says you have booked, the document will make it clear whether it is a package or quite possibly a Flight Plus sale. I suspect it is the latter, the air ticket has probably been issued, most have to be issued almost immediately and therefore cancellation will be a mistake for you at this stage. This is also a reminder that once you book, you must stop looking, it only depresses you!

That isn't a package (not in the sense that the package regs view it). It's a flight plus where you can add parts within a day. A package has to be booked at the same time, and sold at an inclusive price.
