Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

    Hi,
Where is the original explanation of how this works? I'm guessing that some of the amounts above don't include things such as bills?
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Well overall last week was red as I needed extra petrol to go and see hubby. Although my actual spends stayed below my budget. :j

Need to set budget for next week and will report back.

Sunday - out for Mother's Day, budgeted from joint account. Petrol - £40. Groceries - £30
    Monday - NSD
Tuesday - out for lunch - £15. Bunny food £13
    Wednesday - NSD
    Thursday - NSD
    Friday - NSD
    Saturday - paper - £2

    Total - £100

That's all I have for the week so it needs to last.
Will be doing a 'big' shop too but from the joint account now hubby is back, but my plan is to continue to allocate £30 per week for my shopping, treats, toiletries etc and for bunny veg.

    Hi datlex

This is copied from the first post.

This challenge is for incidental spends, as they're often the things we 'waste' money on. The odd magazine, choccie bar, bought lunch instead of taking it with us etc. You just set the budget that will work for you.

I include petrol and groceries in my weekly budget as it keeps me focused. On payday I look at what money I have left after my bills and split it into weekly amounts depending on my plans.

  • Thanks for the thread as always!

I pledge £30 this week. Meal out on Wednesday and I have my eye on a dress that will take me over my clothes budget (£100 this month for spring/summer wear) but think it might sell out quickly.

    Hi all

Thanks ETO for the thread:). I totally lost track of my spending last week but I'm pretty sure I was RED:o.

Please put me down for £40 again this week and this time I will track my spending.

£35 for me this week please

ETO, I don't know how I'd keep my incidentals under control without the motivation of admitting my spending on this thread :D. Thank you
