Tiffany ring

I'm surprised at Tiffany in London taking this stance.
About five years ago I bought a Tiffany necklace in New York for a favourite Aunt, after a year or so the clasp broke. We contacted Tiffany in London who asked us to send it to them along with a copy of the receipt. They repaired the necklace without charge or fuss.
Perhaps their policies have changed since then.0 -
Thank you to everyone for your comments and taking the time to reply to my post.
Since I last wrote there have been further developments regarding my ring.
I was contacted by the lady from Tiffany who I originally spoke to. She informed me that their jeweler in London had now had a chance to look at my ring. He stated that in his opinion I damaged the ring by opening a door using the door handle! I asked what I should do when confronted by a door? Remove the ring before opening it or wait for somebody else to open it for me? I also pointed out once again that the ring is only six months old, I am right handed and if the ring was so delicate as to be damaged by this it would not be my left hand that would be used. I was once again told that my actions must have caused the damage and all that could be done was to send the ring to New York to be repaired and the cost would have to be met by me. I asked for a written report from their jeweler stating his findings so that I could take it and the ring to an independent jeweler. They stated that he would not write a report but they would and on Tiffany headed paper. I agreed to go and collect the report and the ring last week.
The day before the agreed appointment I received another phone call from a different and more senior member of Tiffany staff. They asked again (but this time very pleasantly) if I would please agree to the ring being sent to New York for inspection and that any findings would be reported back to me and that THEY would meet the cost of any repairs and the replacement of the lost diamonds.
All I have ever wanted was for the ring to be returned to the condition that it was bought in such a short time ago, any faults with the ring to be corrected so that they do not reoccur and for me to own an engagement ring that I can wear on a regular basis without fear of damaging it by carrying out tasks involved in everyday life within reason.
I have therefore agreed to their request and shall await their findings and actions with interest. This could take several weeks and I shall post the outcome here.0
