Realised I will be using freesat from Sky, so I assuming from what I have read in this thread, that the channels listing will be different than the ones freesat have?
    Only very narrowly.

EDIT The link is a little out-of-date, you can also add the other BBC HD channels which have since launched

The channels will still be available to you without subscription, so you can upgrade to HD at your leisure.

the devil made me do it - a little more info please? Do you already have a Sky box, or why are you looking at freesatfromsky - there are usually better alternatives. You will still have to pay Sky £10 per month if you want to record for example, so if you want to record, FreeSat (which wiogs refers to) will be better value, and plugs straight into where the Sky box goes.

I have just cancelled my Sky family package, so I still own the Sky+ HD box which I've had for a year.

I am not really bothered by record features to be honest. Was just wondering what channels were available. Just didn't relish going through every channel to find the ones which you don't need to subscribe to.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

BT are adding £4.84 to your bill for HD BT Sport. BT Sport is free with a BT broadband subscription, call and they will remove it. How many people will just accept this even though they don't watch the HD channel. BT will make millions from this!!

Millions? I sincerely doubt it will be "millions".

Number one son wants to reign in unnecessary ongoing cost and is looking to ditch Sky. Apart from Discovery, he has no real interest in the extra content he's paying for and he's not looking to 'do a deal' with Sky.

He will retain the existing twin LBN arrangement he currently has and will probably opt for a Humax HDR-1000S/1TB, which has catch up and pause live tv facilitities along with some HD channels etc (he doesn't have the Sky HD bundle).

    Questions:

    1) Are there better PVRs out there now (wifi would be handy)?
    2) Can you get Discovery in the UK (would likely consider paying for that facility worthwhile) without going down the Sky/Virgin route (BT offer content too, I believe).

    Any thoughts guys?

    The Hiumax HDR-1010S has WiFi.

Discovery is available on NowTV, in the entertainment package. £10 for the box and £6.99 per month or possibly cheaper if you get a bundle package.
