Tbh i agree with your OH on hm wedges, i much prefer shop bought ones, however i will eat hm ones, i just dont expect them to taste the same as ready made ones
Although aldi sell wedges for 69p, so at that price its no different to making them yourself
But if OH complained about what i cooked, id just not bother cooking for him and he could do his own food. But id set him a budget so he understands that the food he wants, isnt within our price range and im doing the best i can, with limited resources.
Aldi wedges are now 55p a bagso really reasonable at the moment

I normally plan meals a few days at a time, and sometimes cook ahead, based around my shift pattern as we don`t do `Monday to Friday` here! I like to experiment and do mostly from scratch, but I also to also work around household preferences:
1)OH not keen on pasta or pastry, but will have a little, and will happily eat anything `new` at least once. (Darling guinea pig that he is!) He does appreciate my effort and always gives honest feedback. NO idea about cooking, but will help in kitchen with close instructions..
2)DS, loves pasta, pastry, and anything he can put on a sandwich. Will eat ham and bacon, but no other meat unless its in bits in curry, bolognese, stew or pie. Doesn`t like most veg unless it`s unrecognisable (as above) or zapped in HM soups.Rarely eats with us as he prefers to eat much later, but happy to eat stuff cold, later, or heat it up himself. Can fend for himself in kitchen but very basic (frying pan/beans pan/grill) and makes awful mess...
3) DGD, 13, lives here half the week, vegetarian. Learning to cook with me, and woe betide anyone who won`t sample her efforts!
4) Me (nearly forgot!) I`ll eat anything, human dustbin....
It sounds a nightmare but it IS possible to cater for all preferences without too much hassle, do the same `basic` meal, juggle the leftovers, and still put something different on the `dissenters` plates! DS won`t participate in a roast meal, but will eat the curried/stewed/souped remains.
OH won`t eat a plate of spag bol, but if DGD makes a big load of veggie sauce (roast peppers/toms/garlic/onion and any leftover cooked veg thrown in too and zapped) he loves the sauce on HM burgers or meatballs.
The main thing is, I aim to please my Fussies, but I will NOT tolerate stroppiness. They can decline politely or wear it!
Stroppiness is MY prerogative, usually reserved for when DS trashes the kitchen.0 -
Actually I prefer my wedges not to be par-boiled either! DH likes the fluffy crispiness but I do not, and just chopping them and bunging in the oven is much less hassle than faffing about with an unnecessary pan of water. If you are cooking them on tin-foil they can stick easily, give them a shake a couple of minutes after you've put them in the oven.
I love the tea and cake idea for when a man-chat is needed

I am lucky that my DH will try anything that I put in front of him, though he is not keen on spicy food, peas or fish, DS doesn't like peppers and DD is a vegetarian, so I do meals that work around these issues.
Tonight is HM pizzas, so everyone has their own small pizza with their topping of choice with HM wedges and coleslawBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

what sort of takeaway does he usually go for?
I like the odd takeaway like most but its usually the wait that puts me off
I figure I can make something quicker
nan bread pizzas or a bagel with some marinaded chicken plus whatever I have are my regular quick snack/meals0 -
Have a batch cooking day and make lasagne, shepherds pies, stews, curries, chilli etc, portion up into single portions and he just has to ping them in the microwave. Then you can have whatever you want long before he comes in.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

lots of posters are suggesting ways to cook that mean you will do more work
and more importantly
your children will be set a horrible example...
it goes "daddy dosn't like this so you cook him special meals that he does like
so
"I dont like this - cook special meals for me.too ..why not...but mumeeeeee!"
and - you can do this ......it will cost a fortune - your kids will eat a rubbish diet ...your stress levels will increase....etc......
I'm completely alongside everybody having a choice - and meal planning is easy to rough out with everybody having suggestions, then organise the details yourself..but if you dont have the time or money, then you just dont..
I'm sooooo furious to even think of an adult setting that kind of example for children..I'm going to go away and stir my cauldron for a bit...whilst I calm down.Fight Back - Be Happy0 -
