Having a bad week. Managing to meet grocery challenge but only just. Spend all of my day off Wednesday cooking ready for meals in the week. I meal plan as suggested and then husband throws a tantrum because he doesn't want it and also hates my homecooked wedges which I liked and means could have saved money on chips. I shop in Tesco and weekly budget down to £52 but annoyed I can't take anymore off or if I do I get stroppiness:mad:
Any suggestions on how I can make life easier.
Sorry...moan over!:o

There are going to be at least 20 people who tell you to put your foot down! I personally can't be bothered getting into the argument, sometimes it really frustrates me but I have enough going on in my life so anything that isn't eaten by him is ate by me the next day or frozen. He gets told 'fine, make something yourself then'! (Which results in him scuttling off to the corner shop for frozen chips!)0

If he doesn't like it, he can grow up, and buy and cook something he does like.

thats awful when you have put so much effort in!
How did you cook wedges and what did he not like about them? I cook wedges and normal chips in the oven with just a little bit of oil and raw potatoes and I think they are much nicer than oven chips0 -
I agree with maddeningly. If your OH doesn't want what you have planned, cook it anyway for yourself, and either freeze the other portion or have it for another meal later in the week.
Your OH will then need to make something else to eat for himself. You will soon find that his comments will stop and he will be pleased to eat something that he hasn't got to cook himself.
My OH used to be a bit like yours, but now I have no complaints about what is on our meal plan. I menu plan/batch cook to keep costs down too, and use up what we have.
The way we do it is that my OH and 2 kids can chose one meal that they would like each week, and I choose the other 4 based on what we have in. I do this as I was fed up deciding what to eat ever night, and getting whining about what was served up. Now they have an input there are no complaints.2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family. It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,0000 -
my oh occasionally does this. I first got upset. now I just ignore him and he goes and gets something else. it is awful though when you have worked hard (TBH the last time the beef was really tough)I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. I feel for ya, a fussy DH and kiddies here too! DH isn't keen on meal plans, as he often dreams up what he wants for dinner, while at work - it's just not practical or economical!
Pick a good time to ask him for ideas on dinner this week (if he's like my DH he might need a few days' notice before you shop). How did you do your wedges? They do need a bit of salt&pepper, herbs or spices. Paprika and cayenne are good, or mixed herbs and garlic salt. If youse prefer them crispy, par-boil them for a few mins, drain and shake in the hot pan to get fluffiness, then toss in some hot oil, like doing roasties.
Talk to your DH and explain why you are meal planning - it saves time, money, stress, you can save for treats, etc. Ask what he dislikes about it and maybe you can both come up with a compromise?
I struggle with keeping to meal plans, it's not an easy task - especially if you are at work all week! At £52 per week you're doing faband if your OH gets all of his dinners set in front of him each night and still has tantrums, maybe he should try the shopping and cooking for a week?

Thanks guys, trust me I let him have it verbally. Said our 2 little girls were being as good as gold and it was only him having a complete melt down over not getting what meal he wanted! I will toughen up and like you say to continue and freeze what he doesn't eat. CT12790 I like that idea to choose each a meal. I will carry on and ignore my teenager....sorry 30 year old OH!!hehe!

Personally i'd tell him to cook for the family then, if he can do a much better job then make him do it!
I don't do fussy here, my eldest son tries it on when i do stiry fry i tell him to pick out the bits he does want and thats all he's getting. Or stick some ketchup on it.
Surely wedges just requires sauce if he's not keen on them.0 -
oh if you like wedges try sweet potato ones, my fav!0
