Proof of Postage?

I buy things on Ebay but have only just started selling. I am confused about proof of postage. I took a parcel to the PO earlier this week and asked for proof of postage. I was given a payment receipt and a so called POP slip. I didnt look at it until I got home but when I did I saw that there was nothing on it regarding the recipient, just the weight and price paid. Supposing the buyer claimed they hadnt received it. How would I be able to prove that that particular so called POP was for a certain person? It could have been for a parcel going anywhere.
( Its not a problem in this instance because the buyer has received it.)
Is that all they give you? It seems a bit pointless to me. Is there something else I should have been given?
I would appreciate some help please from the experts on here.

They are meant to write the number and postcode on it that is your proof of postage.
If they give you a blank one just write it on yourself when you get home or tell them to do it!

I would suggest ask them to do it. Nicely works well.
Some would rather let the person posting do it, to avoid mistakes.

Having blank ones means you can fill them in yourself, as and when needed - even for a different item.

Alternatively if you have a lot of parcels print off a bulk POP from RM (my link no longer goes straight to the PDF so you will have to search for it). Complete it before you go to Post office and ask them to stamp it as well as give you the till receipts.

Will paypal accept a self-filled POP (i.e. handwritten and not stamped by the post office) as techspec suggests?

What is the purpose of a chargeback from the buyer's perspective when they can just claim INR on items that have no tracking?

The till receipt is in itself a POP if it states that at the bottom , it usually says ' please retain this receipt as proof of postage'. It is only the multi ones or card receipts that don't say they are POPs.

As for charge backs, yes any scammer can claim INR on an item but they don't. If you start thinking everyone is a scammer you might as well give up selling online and stick to face to face.

With proof of purchase I can defend a bank chargeback for fraudulent use of card, or in the case of a genuine loss claim my loss back from RM. that's all I need.

I don't understand what you mean - all my proof of postage are hand written.
Thats what the PO supply - its like a receipt with the address HAND WRITTEN by post office staff. My post office leaves that bit blank - so we can fill in ourself. It does not need stamping - its printed by the post office.

Chargebacks allow the buyer to claim even if the seller has tracking.

I use the bulk certificate of postage (printable from Royal Mail website) and have had this accepted as proof of postage by paypal.

Same here, I am not quite sure why people are getting confused. I've always used hand written ones , starting with the ones on the pads they have at the PO and now using the bulk posting ones.
