Unwanted extras on a new car

Was the final price what was agreed though?0

This is now very common with dealers. We have just had it at a main dealer for the second time and it really p's me off, at least they did show it on the screen before we agreed to buy the car.
Did you have any FSA paperwork to sign regarding the GAP and tyre insurances? This is a legal requirement and the FSA would be very interested to hear from you if you weren't and they then added it to an invoice. It's certainly a case of mis-selling and should form the basis of your complaint as they haven't assessed that the insurances you have bought are suitable for your needs, or that you understand what you are buying.
I'd be in the showroom and refusing to leave until a refund to a card had been done.0 -

No, I have nothing. As I said I didnt even know I bought it until I saw it on the 'correct' invoice they sent me. They didn't go through anything, in fact I had a call from the salesman almost 5 days after I bought all these products as he was trying to sell them to and explain everything so that I wouldn't cancel them!!"The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0 -

Yes, it was. But I don't think it's just a case of 'I signed on the dotted line and therefore I am stuffed' as per what daveyjp is saying. And the 14 day cooling off period, that I believe applies, maybe I will speak to CAB. To clarify this is what happened:
1. Dealers quoted me a price.
2. I beat them down to a lower price.
3. They agreed. I thought this price was just for the car and no extras. They did not mention any extras.
4. The sales receipt I got on the day, doesn't mention any extras.
5. A new sales receipt turns up in the post along with a 'thanks for your custom' note, this is when I noticed the breakdown of the charges. I thought I was buying just a car, not a car and some useless insurance. So the £1700-odd of extras didn't get added on later, they were included, but I don't want them and didnt know they were included.
FWIW, I rang up BMW head office yesterday and made an enquiry about if I could cancel the addons, they said I could within 14 days, but I needed to do it through the dealer."The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0 -
So the price agreed did not include these extras. Now they've given them to you for free, and you want to cancel them?
Or do you think they'll give £1700 as a refund, despite the purchase price being what you agreed?0 -

I suspect you are correct.I owe £3233 @ 0%0 -
No, they haven't given them to me for free. I wish they had.
They quoted me a figure from the outset which included them. But they didn't mention this. I assumed (as most would?) that the price was for the CAR not the car + some worthless services. I spent over 2 hours trying to get the price down when I bought it.... Not once did they mention any of this. So in short, the price was £1800 above what I 'would' have paid, if I had said I don't want these. Does that make sense? If they had said to me "Your purchase includes this that and the other" then fine, but they didn't. I believe they purposely went out of their way to deceive me, but of course I cannot prove it and haven't mentioned that to them for fear of making the situation worse.
Ultimately you could say YES i was at fault since I signed for something that was on the final invoice, but it is deceptive practice at best, and thank god for the cooling off period.
I went in to the dealers earlier and they said they would refund these extras in the week anyway. Let's hope so."The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0 -
I used to work as a Sales Manager at a Ford dealership. It sound like they did sneak them into the invoice. You do have 14 days to cancel the Gap and tyre insurance but not the paint protection.
In your paperwork you should find a statement of demands and needs and some information of the insurance polices. You should suggest to the dealer that you are going to contact the FSA about mis-selling as this is almost certainly a case of mis-selling. You should be aware of all insurance products. Even if they claim they have given the products to you free of charge you will still be able to cancel the insurance with the insurance provider and get a full refund. Do not delay get hold of your policy and give the insurer a call as soon as possible.
Even if you have not had this paper work you are protected as the rules state that you can cancel up until 14 days after you receive the paper work but speed is of the essence.0 -
When I bought my Kia Cee'd recently, the salesman sat me down and said that he was obliged to tell me about GAP insurance as part of the garage's licence to provide finance. This was in spite of me already having told him that I was paying cash. There was no question of them putting it on the sale without my say so.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
