Stoozing mistake - MBNA heavy charges.
Comments
-
I used me MBNA card to make an internet payment on my brother's behalf (£1100); he gave me a cheque payable to MBNA which I used to clear that part of the balance.
As MBNA collect the full balance amount each month by DD I phoned them to ask them to subtract the £1100 already paid. They said it was too late to alter the amount, but could stop collection of the direct debit that month, leaving a balance of about £300 I paid by debit card. I also cancelled the DD with my bank, just as an insurance policy.
I was stunned to receive a letter on Saturday, informing me of a £25 charge. I telephoned them straight away, but it was only after speaking to a supervisor and threatening to close my account that they waived the charge on an ex gratia basis.
REMEMBER, I DID NOT OWE THEM A PENNY, OR MAKE A LATE PAYMENT.
BEWARE!!!RIP independent MSE.

Contacted MBNA as by the time I noticed and corrected it the payment would be a day late, MBNA's response was the following
1. Withdraw 0% retrospectively from 1st April
2. Charge late fee £25
3. Interest in excess of £150 (about 12K outstanding)
I have now paid off all but the interest and late fee and am trying to get them to drop them but currently they seem to be sticking to their guns even to the point of saying they are happy for me to cancel the card.
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
Well you are obviously not suited to stoozing. You have to be well organized.
The lesson from all this is to set up a debit debit so the min payment can be taken. You only have yourself to blame and you cannot blame the card company. When I worked for a financial institution I would not give in because a customer starts throwing his toys out of his pram.0 -
I do admire you stoozers for your guts and organisational skills.
I looked into it, realised I'm too woolly-headed to sustain it and gave up.
So, coming at this from a non-stoozer's perspective, I should think MBNA are glad to get rid of your custom. Sorry about that.
You weren't a valued customer to them, since you took "their" money for 2+ years.
No point getting ratty with them because you made an error.
If you play with other people's money, there is the risk of getting burnt.
Martin and co make this crystal clear in their guidelines. I think you'd be doing your fellow stooozers a disservice if you made MBNA out to be some kind of evil tyrannical firm.
You boobed, and now you have to live with that.
wow...never thought I'd be defending a bank...0 -

CTT I take exception to your comment about not being suited to stoozing, I have been doing it for over 2 1/2 years and this was my first ever mistake. I would estimate that in this time I have made over £5K in interest... All I was enquiring about was if anyone had any tips or advice as you correctly point out it was my mistake. I am now have 2 x Capital One 18 Monthers, 1 x Citicard & 1 x Barclaycard LOB so am still playing the game and earning nicely from it.
Cheers,

Whether you take exception to my comments is of no nterest to me. You were very foolish and should have set up a dd and would have avoided penalties.0
