I'm a MoonCup fan. I'll never, ever, ever use tampons again. It's not 'ewwwww' at all - in fact it's tampons that used to make me feel like that with the smell and the fact it was something quite unnatural being put inside me that could effectively cause problems (TSS).

Menstrual cups also let your body do something that tampons do not allow - your natural moisture still continues and does not get absorbed into the cup like a tampon would do. This in fact helps to ensure that there is the normal, healthy amount of the moisture and bacteria inside and leaves you less prone to things like thrush as well.

You can't even feel it when it's in, which is one of the things I love the most. Not like tampons, which you tend to be able to feel especially when they've been in a few hours.

As for sterilising, you don't have to until the end of your period. You just rinse under the tap when you change it and then pop it back in. I put mine in sterilising fluid at the end of each period and it's ready to go for next time. You can also boil it in hot water to do the same thing. It's a personal choice.

It's also nice to know I'm not relying on artificial hormones to keep my period at bay and can just pop the cup in, empty it once a day or whenever and pretty much forget about it. It changed the way I felt about periods. Sounds a bit OTT but it's true. I'll never use any other from of sanitary care now on.

So, are these all the same or is it worth paying extra for a Mooncup.

my understanding they are pretty much all the same, I have a 5 year old mooncup and have bought one of these as a spare. Like silverbird since using these that 'time of the month' is no longer an issue.
    TMI ALERT:
I will add it is useful to carry a small bottle of bleach as I have noticed blood sometimes lingers in the toilet even after flushing, a quick squirt of bleach and it disappears within a minute or so.

If you put a couple of sheets of loo roll on the front of the pan, above the waterline and empty the cup onto this, you dont get blood trickling down into the bottom of the bowl, and sitting there
  • Oh!! Missed out yesterday but after reading this discussion I'm sold on the idea. As I'll now be paying full price does anyone have a preference on which brand is best?

I didn't get on with a Mooncup because it sat on my urethra and caused lots of problems. I'd love to have an alternative because they are much more hygienic and user friendly than tampons.

I've only ever had the mooncup so far but this site has a large choice of menstrual cups.
